Ninja Gaiden is an action series like nothing else. Relentless pace, brutal combat and graceful movement combine in a vortex of blood and chaos.
It started as a 2D platformer, before moving to 3D with the original Xbox. Now in 2025, we have a remake of Ninja Gaiden 2 (Black), a new 2D platformer (Ragebound) and an entirely new 3D game in Ninja Gaiden 4.
If you want to get in on the action, the best way is to check out the Master Collection and Ninja Gaiden 2 Black. Both are included with GamePass.
Ninja Gaiden Ragebound releases at the end of July and a demo for it came out yesterday. It’s fantastic!
It’s a fresh interpretation of 2D Ninja Gaiden, feeling both modern and nostalgic. It has tight controls, great level design and beautiful art and sound.
Gameplay is responsive and exciting! It’s so easy to dash and bop all around the enemies, while slashing and throwing projectiles. Even the story is unexpectedly enjoyable, with some brilliant character interactions.
Difficulty is manageable and highly customisable based on the buffs/debuffs you choose. The game shows you the ropes and encourages you to improve. I’ve already replayed several stages just to get a higher rank. They’re all lovely, bit-sized segments too.
