Announced at last night’s State of Play and scheduled for early 2026, Nioh 3 is the upcoming hardcore action RPG from Team Ninja. The game is scheduled for release on both PS5 and PC. It’s not confirmed yet, but it looks like it won’t be a timed PS5 exclusive this time around.
The game features two unique fighting styles, samurai and ninja, which players can swap between freely at any time. Each style has its own weapons and gameplay mechanics. The samurai can deflect attacks and the ninja can perfect evade, for example.
They are also moving to an open world setting. This seems to be combining elements from Rise of the Ronin with previous Nioh games.
Team Ninja also announced a demo that is out now and available to play for a limited time. The demo is available exclusively on PS5 and will expire on the 18th of June.

I’ve played about an hour of the demo so far (and will play it a lot more during the available time). As a huge Nioh fan (I have the platinum trophy for both games) this demo blew my away. I did not think Nioh could get any better.
The new style switch system is a really great idea to add even more depth to the combat. The samurai style still has the old stance system but the ninja style has ninjutsu and other mechanics instead. It seems that they’re really working on making sure each style feels very distinct.
I’m all for the open world as well. I loved Rise of the Ronin and I think elements from that game combined with Nioh could make for a very fun game. Exploration seems like it will be really rewarding as well with rare loot to find.
If you have a PS5 and enjoyed the Nioh games or like souslikes you should definitely give this demo a go.

I tried a bit, it’s very good! I think they’ve made clever improvements to the formula without messing with what fans like.

Thats exactly what they’ve done yeah. I’ve put about 10 hours into the demo now lol. Finished the hard version of the mission there is and the only thing I have left is an optional boss roaming the open world that is super though. But I’ll get him before the demo expires.
