Our weight isnā€™t actually measured in kilograms. Weight is measured in Newtons. Mass is kilograms. So we weight for example 100 Newtons (what we call kilograms). To get our mass (in actual kilograms) you divide your weight by 9.8. So someone with a weight of 100 actually has a mass of 90.2kg.

Correction: 100 divided by 9.8 is not 90.2, it 10.2. Thanks @DieGrootHammer for pointing that out. So your mass will be 10.2 kg

The problem is that while mass is the same everywhere on earth, weight is not - it can vary as much as 0.7% from the North Pole (heavy) to the mountains of Peru (light). This is in part caused by the rotation of the earth, and in part by the fact that the earthā€™s surface is not (quite) a sphere.

meh, useless info

so if I want to lose weight I need to go to Peru and avoid the north pole?

Yeah, new diet program. only takes 2 days to lose weight. (Iā€™m guessing the time it takes to travel to Peru)

But we all know the earth is flat tho. So your sphere theory is kind of a bust.

Forgot about thatā€¦

Its considered unsportsmanlike to get drunk during the day while others need to workā€¦

I get these thoughts while waiting in post office queues

Gives you something to talk about when youā€™re in the middle seat on your flight to Peru

Ha ha. Yeah, I also chose the flat-earthers.

I wonder how gravity works on flat earth.

God sorts it out.

Also I have a fundamental math problem with this statement. The formula for weight is w=m x g, where w = weight, m = mass, and g = gravitation. Therefor, if your weight is 100N, your mass will be 100/9.8, which is 10.2kg. So for your mass to be 90kg, your weight will be 90 * 9.8 = 882N.
