I got my car on a very good special. I see they post new specials every week:


The specials arenā€™t always the same at all the places. So it may be worthwhile waiting until you see a good special.

The short answer is that I probably donā€™t need a new car right now.

The long answer is that we decided to pay off debt first, especially my wifeā€™s car so that we only have 1 car to pay off. What would be better, would be to buy our next car cash, or out of our bond, so weā€™re trying to push buying a new car as far into the future as possible. Iā€™m not in favour of replacing vehicles every 2-3 years, so I would really like to buy a great family car that we can enjoy driving for years to come, at least until I go into some midlife crisis and need to buy a toy

Thatā€™s a sane answer, we took a similar route with my car in that I bought something that I knew would last, was big and powerful enough to last me a couple of years. I donā€™t really need a car in the UK, but between myself and the wife we would like at least one car. How big our next car will be is up to debate, but it will likely be a small runaround for city use.
