Water issues suck.
We lived in Vryheid, KZN 2 years back. Had no water for 8 months. Fetched water from the communal municipal-tank once or twice, but after that, we got water from friends and family, about 300-400km away; either when we visited or when they visited. We never had more than 200l stocked up. When it dropped below 50l you start arranging a weekend away but had to stand in the Oasis queue couple of times.
I collected rainwater in our bathtub and used that for flushing the toilets and bathing. We didnāt call it ābathingā - we called it āskottelā: 2l of hot water and a cloth, just wipe the essentials.
If itās yellow, let it mellow, if itās brown, flush it down. Tried to reuse all water - basically, everything went down the toilet.
We used about 100l water per week.
Eventually, the landlord put up a 1000l tank that he filled for us as needed - this was grey water that we only used to skottel and to flush toilets. Water for everything else was still being āimportedā.
Weāve moved. We have tap water now. But I still collect water. I still save water where I can.
Not having water changes you, for the better I believe.
yea I am scared for that day - at least we still have a relatively full salt water pool and 2 big jojo tanks that managed to fill almost full with the bit of rain we had.
I am already struggling with showering in tubs and all that.
I only shower ever 3 days or so, I donāt really sweat and Its actually better because of my eczema in any case, when I do there is a bucket basically the size of the shower in place for grey. Me and the SO use very little water in any case, I just want to make sure I have drinking water at this point , I can always go dive into the ocean if i stink its 5 min away
