Played the demo quite a lot solo and with a friend from the UK. As someone who played a lot of Destiny 2, Division/Division 2 and Anthem, I cannot help but compare it to those.
Good Stuff:
Fast paced action
Interesting abilities to use
Good group synergy with abilities
A healer!
Itemisation actually changes the way you play and choose your skills, blue items change how your skills work, so this is nice
Runs smoothly on ultra for me and I have a midrange setup
Story is ok, see below
Bad stuff:
Cannot turn motion blur off!
No jump! (very much like Div/Div2 in that way)
I am not a fan of the demo scenery, looks like these bozos escaped from earth just to bring the apocalypse to this planet. I was really looking forward to more alien landscapes, maybe in the full game.
SO many story inconsistencies: They bring a colony ship packed full of guns and hundreds of tanks and buckets of ammo to a new planet. So much so that they did not bring any agricultural tech, no seed banks. Nothing. In 31 years they built a post apocalyptic city with so much metal and concrete that it looks like a blown up earth city. Where did they get all this material from. Rusted guns? I mean come on, who uses metal that can rust in a gun. I would also NEVER use a gun that is rusted.
NO loot sharing, thatās right you read correctly. The devs said point blank that no one can share any loot with anyone else. You can use your account stash to share items between characters though. I guess that, is ok.
The demo netcode is severely broken. For a game that sells itself as a easy to drop into multiplayer game, it gets out of sync really quickly and often. Team members rubberband, lag tank and all of that.
With all that said, I am considering buying it as it looks to have some good longevity and should be popular for a while, probably longer than Anthem.
Yea played it with my housemate on sundayā¦ he got over it pretty quickly. His main complaint was 30 seconds of action, 90 seconds of cutscene, rinse/repeat. That and he kept getting crashes.
I was connected to HIS game and the desync and rubberbanding was quite bad, despite being literally 3m apartā¦so something makes me think even if someone is āhostingā, theyāre not hosting locally
Yea I tried it last night, between the 1000000ās of cutscenes that was really buggy on my screen - lagged and broken. The fact that I cant turn motion blur off - I cant sprint. The fact that pressing space for cover, then you dont go into cover. There was a few things that bugged me. My char that I created didnt look anything like the one in the video, the video and sound during cutscenes didnt sync.
Iām starting to wonder if People Can Fly are regretting releasing this as a Demo and not as a Beta release that they can say will be improved on before full releaseā¦
Iād rather baste my testicles in olive oil and roast them over a barbecue than play this game again.
I was also not too impressed. Far too much exposition in the form of cutscenes at the beginning. Didnāt finish the demoā¦ But then I may go back and at least reach the end of it because it seemed that just maybe the story would start getting interesting. The gameplay was fairly generic cover based shooter. I went with the trickster class and the abilities certainly look cool. The time warp bubble is pretty cool with bullets slowing down a la Matrix style. But I found it far more effective just to hide behind cover and make headshots with the sniper rifle.
Yeah this seemed to be the thing that I found as well. I kept having to tell myself to use my powers. I used the Pyro. I stopped playing(not permanently) coz my game kept crashing when I open the skills menu. Since there is no ronacup tonight maybe Iāll go back in and just play further and see, also maybe open the skills menu from within the main menu instead to see.
Going to play a bit more and at the very least get to Tier 3 to see how it ramps up.
Iāve also been playing the demo and although I havenāt experienced crashes, this is not the lootshooter for me.
While there is an interesting idea here to have a sci-fi cover-based lootshooter, it certainly doesnāt pull off being a co-op Mass Effect. The cover controls are also flakey ā usually at the worst times.
Games like Warframe, Anthem, and even Borderlands have incredibly responsive controls, and for a cover-based shooter to struggle with character cover mobility is a problem.
My mate had the exact same problem of crashes when he opens a skill menu or inventory. Any chance youāre sporting an AMD card? Heās got a 380. Hasnāt updated drivers (well he has now but we havenāt played since to test), that was my proposed fix hehe.
I think this is the difference between a reviewer thatās actually worked on games, and for all intents and purposed is professional vs someone whoās built their youtube brand on overreacting and swearing at things they donāt like.
This might be proof, that one should always look up many reviews, before deciding. Every youtuber, comes with a bias.
Iām impressed that theyāre actually going in and patching stuff in the Demo. And that they seem fairly responsive and receptive to the criticisms.
Not sure thereās enough time to make some of the more fundamental changes before the launch, but maybe a decent game will eventually evolve out of it?
Yeah I agree, the fact that alot of the stuff that are being fixed are issues raised in the last week is promising. And so soon after the demo release too.
