24 Hours of Spa underway.

Five SA drivers, in five different cars:

  • Kelvin van der Linde - #32 Audi R8
  • David Perel -#33 Ferrari 488
  • Sheldon van der Linde - #34 BMW M6
  • Jordan Pepper - #70 McLaren 720
  • Stuart White - #107 Bentley Continental

Big, ugly multi-vehicle accident at 30-minute mark. Race remains under Full Course Yellow for the moment.

  • Confirmation that Estre has been released from med centre and is back in the pits.
  • Confirmation from Race Control now that Aitken and Rigon are being transferred to hospital for further tests - no life-threatening injuries thankfully.
  • Perera is also cleared to return to pits now.

Callum Illot (one of the four cars was being driven by his teammate Davide Rignon) makes a fair point - today’s accident was at the top of Eau Rouge into Raidillon again, the same place as the Anton Hubert accident.

Fair point. Too fast for a blind corner with negative camber. Something needs to change, but then we lose an iconic corner. Worth it? For sure!

Today is sad indeed, a marshal passed away after another massive accident

I agree, it would be a shame to lose it, but something must be done. I don’t think necessarily losing it entirely though. It needs to be something with the barriers on the inside of Raidillon. The first car - Jack Aiken in the Lambo - spun into the barriers on the left and bounced back into the center of the circuit. Like the Hubert accident, the following car - Estre in his Porsche - coming up that blind rise from Eau Rouge at such high speed, had no chance to react to a car across the circuit.

“And then suddenly I saw a lot of smoke and debris in front of me over the crest. I braked. I didn’t really know where to go because I couldn’t really see if there was a car stopped or anything. I just saw debris and smoke. I stayed on my line, but then apparently I hit the Lamborghini from Jack Aitken on the right side."

Nor the next two. Absolutely terrifying, and a miracle that injuries weren’t significantly worse. A testament to the strength of roll cage and safety cell. This is what was left of the Aitken Lamborghini:

There is video of the accident too: {Trigger warning of high-speed motor vehicle accident}

Something to stop cars returning to the circuit after colliding with that barrier.

No amount of sim-racing could prepare you for the terror/thrill of real driving around Nords.

It’s one of my bucket lists, I’m sad I didn’t go there when I was in Germany. I love this track and love seeing vids like this.

Watched this last night and love Guy Martin, such an absolute legend. Though at first he seems rather unimpressed
