Last week we learned that Red Dead Redemption 2 would now be releasing in October 2018, rather than the Spring. At the time, Rockstar offered us some new screenshots to tide us over, but it seems a big leak has revealed many more details about the upcoming game. According to the report, Red Dead Redemption 2 will come with a slew of new features, including a first-person view mode (like GTA V) and even a Battle Royale game mode for multiplayer.
The folks over at Trusted Reviews claim to have received a number of development notes on Red Dead Redemption 2, detailing planned gameplay mechanics, multiplayer modes and single-player gameplay details. There will be no direct story spoilers here, but there will be details on gameplay/mechanics.
According to the report, the main protagonist of the game will be a character called Arthur Morgan. Over the course of the campaign, you will make different choices that will impact the main story. So certain events will play out differently depending on which characters you interact with, which side of the law you sit on and how you tackle various objectives and dialogue options.
Vehicles in the game will include handcarts, horse-drawn carriages and minecarts. You’ll be able to fast travel across the open world using the train and along the way, you will discover different towns/cities populated with NPCs, store owners, gunsmiths, etc. Various side activities will be available at these locations in addition to main story missions. You’ll be able to take up fishing, horse racing and foraging to collect plants and herbs for crafting. Random events will take place along the way, similarly to GTA V’s ‘Strangers and Freaks’ encounters.
Injuring enemies or knocking them off their horse while in pursuit will trigger dialogue options. This will allow you to force information out of them or blackmail them for cash.
The biggest question mark with this game has been Red Dead Redemption 2 Online. According to the report, online gamemodes will include ‘Money Grab’, ‘Revive and Survive’, and finally, ‘Battle Royale’. The latter is pretty self-explanatory and makes perfect sense given the success of games like Fortnite and PUBG recently.
Money Grab will feature two teams fighting over bags of cash, with the goal of collecting money from a central location and returning it to your home base. It’s similar to the capture the flag modes we see in first-person shooters. The Revive and Survive game mode will pit two teams against each other again with the objective of staying alive. Each team will get to revive their teammates a number of times each round. Destiny 2 has a similar game mode to this called ‘Survival’.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Online will have player-owned housing, similar to GTA V Online. However, apartments and houses are apparently going to be replaced by tents, which can be outfitted with various upgrades.
Red Dead Redemption 2 will officially release on the 26th of October this year.
