Star Wars: Galactic Racer | Now This is Podracing!

Star Wars: Galactic Racer

Fuse Games & Secret Mode | 6 October | PC XBXS PS5

Yes, I know, unoriginal title. But it’s the only one that truly fits. Star Wars: Galactic Racer launches 6 October, and it really is looking like the Star Wars Podracing game fans have been wanting for ages.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer™ is a high-stakes reinvention of racing born in the lawless Outer Rim of the Star Wars™ galaxy.

The Empire’s grip on the galaxy has finally broken, and with its fall comes a new obsession: speed. As the New Republic struggles to rebuild, gambling, entertainment, and glory fuel a booming underground. Out of this chaos, the Galactic League is born: an unsanctioned racing circuit where syndicates sponsor pilots, fortunes are won and lost in seconds, and only the bold survive.

No Force. No prophecy. Just skill, strategy, and the will to rise.

Darius Pax may have founded the Galactic League, but Kestar Bool dominates it. As talented as he is villainous, Kestar uses his position as League Champion to threaten other pilots and extend his powerful reach even further. In a bid to retain control over his racing league, Darius Pax enlists the help of Shade, a mysterious pilot with a personal grudge against the Bool family. With the help of the energetic engineer Hibi and a certain legendary podracer, Shade’s sights are set on unseating the corrupt reigning champion.

Lucasfilm Games is teaming up with Fuse Games (a studio made up of ex-developers from the Burnout and Need for Speed franchises) to drop players right into the driver’s seat of the Outer Rim.

Pure, Unapologetic Arcade Chaos

This isn’t a clean, polite simulator. Since it’s built by veterans of the Burnout series, the focus here is heavily on high-stakes combat, aggressive takedowns, and massive drifts.

The game drops you into the lawless underbelly of the New Republic era. You play as Shade, an underground racer working with an Ardennian mechanic named Hibi to climb the ranks of “The Galactic League” and take down the reigning champ.

The Rides: From Speeders to Podracers

Instead of standard cars, you’re piloting four entirely different classes of repulsorcraft, and they all handle with their own specific physics:

  • Landspeeders: Built for heavy drifting and sliding around tight corners.
  • Speeder Bikes: Fast, agile, and focused on quick kinetic bursts of speed.
  • Skim Speeders: Acrobatic machines built for sharp, knife-edge cornering.
  • Podracers: The high-speed, dangerous icons of Star Wars racing are officially back.

You’ll be tearing through iconic and brutal environments like the deserts of Jakku and Tatooine, the ice tracks of Ando Prime, and the lava flows of Lantaana.

The game supports 12-player online multiplayer with full crossplay right out of the gate. You’ll compete across a six-planet tournament structure where every race builds toward a final championship.

After an initial reveal discount price, the Standard Edition is now going for R884 (PC) or R1149 (console), while the R1179/R1499-R1532 Deluxe Edition throws in extra vehicles, arcade events, and a digital art book. If you pre-order, you’ll grab a few exclusive cosmetic bonuses to show off on the track.

Looks good. For anyone with an ultrawide monitor and killer sound system, this will be a treat for the senses.

The price went up twice on Steam. It was as low as R549. I’m not saying you should buy it now if you’re interested. Just an observation.

IGN - 8/10

“Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a fabulous looking and frantically fast anti-grav racer that impressively goes further than just taking the decades-old Star Wars Racer games and giving them a 4K facelift. With a range of satisfyingly customisable vehicle classes beyond podracers, a world outside the racing you can soak in and explore in third-person, and an interesting roguelite-adjacent structure that injects a considerable degree of risk into the action, Galactic Racer is a fresh and accomplished blend of Lucas lore with the destructive spirit of arcade racing icons like Burnout and MotorStorm. Its run-based campaign can grow unavoidably tedious over long stints because of its heavy reliance on repeatedly revisiting the same slim selection of planets, and its lack of splitscreen is disappointing considering its roots run back to consoles regarded as the kings of same-couch chaos. But Galactic Racer is an otherwise confident debut from developer Fuse Games, and one that has successfully lit the afterburners on a long-dormant slice of the Star Wars universe.”

Experience the high-speed, high-stakes reinvention of racing set in a galaxy far, far away. Pilot a range of speeders and podracers as you make your way through the Galactic League, an unsanctioned racing circuit born in the lawless Outer Rim of the STAR WARS™ galaxy.

Developed by Fuse Games and published by Secret Mode, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. STAR WARS: Galactic Racer™ is now available worldwide on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
