Steam Game Recording

(As spotted by @TechThief) Another Steam feature coming out of the Steam Lab… Steam Game Recording is now avaialble for testing in Beta.

And it looks like a pretty well developed tool - timeline markers, multiple share options, mp4 exporting. Go test it and drop those links and shared files here!

Also heard that there’s a refresh to the screenshot system and UI as well - haven’t had a moment to check that though…

I had a look at this, more of a quick look, than a deep dive. It was tested on Fedora with Gnome desktop. I had issues with the shortcuts and VERY slow render with the overlay, so much so, that it’s less effort to just use OBS. I hope someone on Valve or Gnome’s side fixes this, though I have a suspicious, Wayland is actually the culprit. That all said, I would hazard a guess that, most people running steam on linux, probably know how to OBS anyway, and won’t even use this feature, initially.

Out of Beta and now available to all. And receiving positive notes for it’s usefulness, effectiveness, and easy of use.

The new functionality isn’t just a simpler way to record gameplay footage: it has editing too, as well as a useful-looking marker system.

That seems pretty neat. This is definitely one of the things Steam does well. Introduce conveniences that after a while people can’t remember how they coped without it.

It works well! It recorded the last 40 minutes of Tekken 8 seamlessly. I could review my matches and edit them way more easily than by using an external tool or the built in replays. It automatically created markers at the start of each match.

Did a quick test with tarkov, but I can confirm that steam will record non-steam games if they are added.
