Most of you fine people will be familiar with soulslikes as well as Spiders by now. They are known for developing fairly good lower budget RPG’s and this time they are trying their hand at a Soulslike, but it also has a twist. This game is completely singleplayer, can be paused and also has an assist mode for people looking for less of a challenge. It’s not the most in-depth mode but it does offer some settings to lower the potential frustration for people not really into soulslikes. The game is probably going to get a lot of hate for it, but I think it’s a great addition and opens up the game to a larger audience. It’s totally optional.
Also, unlike most soulslikes this is not dark fantasy. This game is set in an alternate history France during the French Revolution and you play as a “female” automoton named Aegis who must take on King Louis XVI’s army to “save the world”. You can customise the character a little bit but nothing too in depth. The visual style and setting really set it apart from other games in the genre and hopefully there are lots of interesting locations to visit and a big variety of enemy types.
When I saw it yesterday on GMG for R325 including DLC and access to a beta/demo, I couldn’t resist and pre-ordered it. I’ve played about 45 minutes so far. In the trailers, at least to me, the combat and movement looks a bit clunky but when you actually play the game it feels really good. I can tell the developers really thought about the fact that you are playing a robot and it definitely comes across like that.
If you’re into soulslikes or would like to try one for the first time without the massive challenge, this is one to keep an eye on.
