Is anyone here on MTN Fibre?

While we can ping 1.1.1.1 (cloudflare’s DNS), we don’t get any responses over TCP connections… It works just fine over other ISPs…

I can check when I get home, our line is mtn

^^^ Hmm, maybe this website is hosted on a server that is also having issues!

Just discovered 1.0.0.1 works fine…

Can’t talk into MTN but with my on Afrihost for a few days now my lookups have been slow and general choppy internet.

Yeah, I’m still experiencing issues. Just tried to get a Reddit link and a few times in a row my browser returned that it was unable to reach the site. After a good few refreshes, I was able to successfully land on the site.

This appears to me to be a DNS lookup problem?

Could be… I never received a response on the issue I was having, but it was almost certainly a routing issue between MTN and CloudFlare’s DNS server. My ISP called to tell me it was working, but they hadn’t heard back from MTN yet.

I had spent 20 minutes describing the issue to my wISP, but they kept referring to the wireless link and our local LAN. When they called me back to tell me it was working, they had a massively defeated tone in their voice.

Which DNS server(s) are you using?

The default ones inserted by Afrihost when installed.
Primary: 169.1.1.2
Secondary: 169.1.1.10

I usually recommend 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1, or 9.9.9.9.

If you have a router capable, I’d also recommend using DNS over HTTPS.

This could be the same thing that caused an outage on Signal Messenger this morning.

Ok it seems that there is def something going on, mine is now struggling to stay connected and fecking slow, but a speedtest shows all is in order.

I’m having a lot of trouble updating one of tools, I have gone back and forth with their support and have an active ticket. For some reason the tool just is not updating, the only thing left to try is on another network. So I don’t suppose anyone has a VPN I could use just to test this scenario, just to see if it resolves the issue, or rule out my connection as an issue?

I haven’t tried it out myself yet, but you could try ProtonVPN’s free tier

Thanks for that suggestion, I didn’t even know there were “free” VPN options. I will investigate and probably give it a whirl.

I’ve been meaning to give it a try. I’ve been using protonmail for a couple years and must say I like the company and their privacy focus.

Didn’t protonmail recently give some government access to someones mails? I just remember seeing a headline in passing since I don’t use them.

This one?

That’s from a Swiss court order, so they didn’t have a choice.

Thanks, so I can say resume but I should order a new harddrive asap. This sucks, I’ve got exams starting next week I don’t want to have to start reinstalling software then.
