It’s still on the cards, but the struggle is to find the balance in offering value and to not dilute the site with “paid for” listings which end up competing with one another, while drowning out the listings that don’t have the funds. We don’t want it to be the next terrible Gumtree-of-listings.

That’s a big no. We want to keep it clean and focused. The only ad-revenue we’re considering is punting affiliated services once visitors are interested in an activity. Like promoting flights, accommodation and car rental if you’re interested in visiting a mountain bike trail 500km away from your home, or micro insurance if you’re going on a hike and only want extra cover for the duration of the trip. But those will be very niche advertisements which will be agreed upon with providers beforehand.

Exactly the market we’re aiming at - providing a “free” platform for those venues and businesses to provide an electronic platform to manage their bookings on so that they can replace the physical book by the phone. So they get value by paying very little.

On a side-note, we’ve been entered into a startup accelerator based in Austria for the next 3 months. We were shortlisted end of last year for the program and got the green light early in Jan. The “classes” are all virtual and are held once a week and we’ll get a platform for pitching to 120+ investors by the end of the accelerator. Apparently the offering and business model is quite in line with current trends and government incentives in the EU (i.e. “community improvement”), so we stand a good chance of gaining some investor backing by the end of April.

In that vein, paid advertorials might also be plausible, since those can be a page on its own and thus unobtrusive.

That’s brilliant. I think you’re on to a good model here! It’s also a smart investment - relatively low development cost for you guys, very low system maintenance, with a recurring income.

Well done, and well done on the accelerator!

I can’t find a single restaurant around us that sells pancakes. Waffles (yes! but not today) and flapjacks, but no pancakes.

It is easy to agree that tough love is the best thing you can do for someone. It is not so easy to be faced by it when it is your own child.

I can only imagine. Feel free to talk if you need to, @Shrike.

That’s an interesting one. I don’t think any restaurants here by us sell pancakes either but I may be wrong. I can also do with one. Haven’t had a pancake in years.

You really shouldn’t be able to like your own post. If you do, I think your home loan should be turned down

Anyone got a spare pair of trainers or running shoes they don’t need? I need to start doing something, I’m feeling so unfit lately.
