Morning everyone. Today I am driving from Bloem to Beaufort West, and I need to go to the shops to fill up my snack bag. My mom wants me to go to Woolies but the snacks are so expensive… I love their venison nibbles though. I reckon I can get snacks at Checkers instead. It made me think, I’ve never asked a question here - so my question is:

What are your favourite expensive/fancy snacks? I’m talking about the ones that you love but don’t often buy because they’re so expensive, they’re only for super special occasions, for a real rare treat!

Chicken biltong. It can be hard to find, but ya…

And while not technically expensive, they’re rare, as they need to come from North America:

And a local one for any time I go to Kruger (gotta get the big bag)

I don’t buy snacks :upside_down_face:

I do happen to snack on raisins when I open the cupboard and see the glass jar there.

The wife and I have no family coming out this year so we were looking at places to go have xmas lunch. Sadly, the overwhelming response is that these places charging are not affordable. I could got away for a weekend for the amount that they’re charging for a plate or two of food.

Christmas/easter etc meals are always way overpriced. One suggestion I would make is to order something nice as a takeaway and then pack it in a basket and set off to find somewhere beautiful to eat it.

Yeah, the cheapest place we found is charging R650pp. So ja… dat ain’t happenin.

Think we’ll go out for a late lunch early dinner on xmas eve and instead by a lukka roast for xmas day, maybe a gammon and leg’o’lamb.

That’s insanely expensive!

Is that a Cape thing? Or is it just the kind of places that you asked at?

I mean it’s the same places we’ve been to for ordinary lunches too, so it was in our budget as a monthly expense.

But yeah, expensive to say the least.

@czc Sounds to me like you are one of the lucky people who has someone else buying their snacks for them!
If you opened the cupboard, what do wish you could find?

For me, I love Chocolate Eclairs. Not the toffee, those just destroy teeth. I’m talking about the pastry. With freshly baked puffs, real cream (not too much), and melted chocolate drizzled over the top. I rarely ever eat them, but when I do, it’s a major treat for me.

@murfle Oo, chicken biltong. I do like that as well. I don’t eat beef, so I can only have biltong if I find venison, baconbiltong, or chicken. I don’t like Ostrich biltong much.

Ooo, shortbread is a winner. I love it when it has small bits of chocolate in it. It has to be fresh and it has to be artfully hidden from @SIGSTART because shortbread is to him as cookies are to Sidney the Cookie Monster.

Sjoe that was a long session to get my hair done today, normally not so long but today took 3 hours cos I told my hairdresser she can play :stuck_out_tongue:
So I have my usual red hair, with some copper blond, some black and dark purple
Gotta say I love her creativity
