Maybe, maybe not. The stats are a huge bonus…
Time for some feedback!!
I will be posting each section separately, and spread out the info over a few days, as it’s a massive number of questions.
So, let me start with the first section: Firsts In Gaming!
Rag Doll Kung Fu was the very first non-Valve game to be released on Steam, and it seems that a good number of people got the question right. While both Braid and Hitman was part of the first host of games to be released, Rad Doll Kung Fu was the first one!
Of the 4 games in the answers, only Oblivion got a MetaCritic score over 90%, but the others did come very close to it. But Oblivion was the first game on PS3 to reach the 90% mark, just a couple of months after the release of the console
An easy question with most people getting this one correct. The NES was the first Nintendo game console, and while the Mega Drive did come before it, the Mega Drive is from Sega.
This was THE most difficult question of the quiz, with the lowest number of users that got the right answer. Sage was first to market with a VR gaming device with the Sega VR. The Virtual Boy was the first big VR device but release to market a few months after the Sega VR device. The Oculus Rift only released a few years ago, and the VXR 1 was never a gaming VR device.
Definitely a question of contention. Yes, of the 4 the Wii U was first to launch, but seeing as it has been discontinued and effectively replaced by the Switch, it cannot be seen as a Current Generation console. And so the PS4 is the first CURRENT gen console, releasing 1 month before the Xbox One.
While Contra was the game that popularized the famous Konami code, Gradius was the first game to feature that code. All of these games did indeed feature the Konami code, but Gradius was first.
Another difficult question. FIFA 15 was the first game to feature the infamous Denuvo anti-piracy software. While all of these games does have it, FIFA was the first one to ship with it, and even had EA touting it to be uncrackable. Little did they know…
Many people stepped into the Mortal Kombat trap! Super Mario Bros was the very first movie adapted from a video game, and the genre was not off to a good start at all.
While Journey’s soundtrack was nominated for a Grammy, the first to be nominated, Civilization 4 takes the honors for being the first video game to have a theme song that won a Grammy. The song, Baba Yetu by Christopher Tim and the Soweto Gospel Choir also means that SA has a nice tie-in with this historic moment in gaming!!!
Most people again got this one right, but I was surprised that many people didn’t know this one. Demon Souls was the first game by FROM Software in the Souls series. Dark Souls was the one that elevated the series to greatness however, and the other two options are both fakes.
Aha! I got the first current gen one wrong according to you but I was right!
The Wii U is seen as current gen (8th generation). The Switch is not seen as a current gen console because it’s a hybrid console!
LIES!!!
But I will give you that. I may have been in a different mind set, as I may have taken current gen more as currently available and not according to the strictest definition of the word.
correction sir, the mega drive came before the Super Nintendo not the NES the competitor for the NES was the sega master system
Fair point, but regardless, it was not a Nintendo system and thus the wrong answer. But thanks for the clarification.
It’s time for the next group of questions: Important Gaming Events!!
Very difficult question, though most people seemed to know or guess this one correctly. The first Xbox was released all the way back in 2001.
I expected this question to be very easy, but a few people got it wrong. While Fortnite is arguably the biggest game at the moment, the first game to ever break DOTA’s record for most concurrent players was PUBG. DOTA peaked at 1.3 million people, while PUBG reached a peak of 3 million concurrent players!
Another date question, and another difficult one. But the dark ages of gaming happened in 1983 shortly after the release of E.T. The gaming industry took several years to gain the same momentum as it had in the early 80’s.
While Georgia and Santa Monica did host E3 events, the very first Electronic Entertainment Expo was held at the LA Convention Center, where it currently has taken residency.
One of the more difficult questions of the quiz and a lot of people got it wrong. While rumours of GFWL shutting down was floating around, and more and more developers abandoning the service, it was only in August of 2013 that Microsoft finally pulled the plug on the service.
Skyrim is more meme than game these days. At this moment it was released on almost every platform and every console probably available, with multiple releases to cater for the different platforms. Even Bethesda themselves joked about this fact during this year’s E3 presentation. All we can do now is patiently waiting for Skyrim on mobile…
THIS QUESTION IS WRONG!!! It was not Konami, but Atari that brought the world Pong. I got mixed up with the two while creating the quiz.
All 4 consoles were massively, and all sold many millions of units. The Wii sold just over 100 million units, the Nintendo 3DS sold almost 73 million units, and the PS3 just under 84 million units. But nothing comes close to the success of the Sony PlayStation 2, with over 155 million units sold, it is the best selling gaming console of all time
Nice and easy question, with most people getting it correct. GTA 5’s launch will go down in history as one of the biggest launches of any entertainment product ever. It earned a billion (with a B) dollars within the first 24 hours of being on the market. No other entertainment product has come close to such an achievement.
Another difficult question to end off the section. Steam launched in September 2003, making it just under 15 years old at the moment.
MORE TO COME ON A LATER DATE

Isn’t the Wii U the correct answer, if the 8th generation is considered the current generation?
“Definitely a question of contention. Yes, of the 4 the Wii U was first to launch, but seeing as it has been discontinued and effectively replaced by the Switch, it cannot be seen as a Current Generation console.”
Technically the original ps4 has also been discontinued, and you can only purchase the slim.
Wii, Wii U and Switch are all different platforms.
Original, Slim, Pro are all the same platform.
I still think the current generation is the 8th, which is what the Wii u belongs in. If the question was changed to current generation and still available, or something along those lines, I would agree.
the wii u and switch are both considered as eight generation consoles
in my view the switch is actually the 1st next generation console, but due to its lack of power it falls in the category of current generation.
I see you still can’t spell Demon’s Souls @DieGrootHammer
EDIT: As a side note, while Demon’s Souls was the first game that had Souls in the title it was actually not the first of that type of game that From Software developed. They did the King’s Field series which is basically like a very early first-person Souls game. The Moonlight Blade which is present in all Souls games (even Bloodborne) was also introduced in King’s Field.
I don’t know how so many people got the date questions right. Those really screwed me over.
I cant remember what I got for them, but I suspect I got worse than you
Naa, the Switch is still an 8th Generation console.
