The Formula 1 Thread 🏎

Missed the logos on the halo. That makes it so much better. NOT!

Stays "uninspired’ in my books, but I guess the livery really doesn’t make that much of difference either way.

This is the old car with the new livery, right? This is not the whole new car?

That is correct, we will see the new cars at Barcelona testing

We’ll see them moving and hear the Merc in Barcelona, but we should see the “new” livery on the 2020 car this Friday. Today was really just a PR thing to announce the new partnership…

I just love how much red there is so far :stuck_out_tongue:
Also can’t wait to see if the Macca’s are even better this year. I hope Williams can salvage something this season. I still think Haas made a huge mistake with Grosjean but hey maybe he surprises us?

4.5 Weeks till Aus!

We should see the first of the 2020 contenders tonight from Ferrari - both the livery and the actual car. (Post on their Twitter account pokes a little at Mercs livery only reveal: “Make sure you’re watching at 18:30 CET tomorrow for the FULL reveal of our 2020 challenger.”

Livestream at 18:30 CET / 19:30 SAST on…

The FB page also links to there, and there is no dedicated Ferrari Scuderia YouTube channel, so am guessing that’s the only place it’ll livestream from.

Mission WinNowNow continues.

Just as a heads up in case you or anyone else thinking about it hasn’t subbed yet…

I read (on Reddit) last night that last year F1 TV put out a couple of short-lived discount codes around the time of the start of Testing and again before the first race. One was for as much as 50% off. Some were country or region specific though.

The suggestion was that they did that to drum up numbers for the first full season of F1 TV and they won’t do so again this year. Likewise, there was a counter suggestion that with so many new territories getting F1 TV Pro access for this year, they may do it again.

On the off chance that they do drop a discount code or two in the near future, it might be worth holding off on subscribing for as long as you can.

That said, at around R670, the annual pricing available to us here in SA for F1 TV Pro at the moment is comparatively pretty good already. The same features in Germany cost €65 (R1060) and in the USA are $80 (R1200). The UK at £20 and Australia at $42 are cheaper, but the service in those two does not include any Live Streaming at all, only the history videos and the live timing app.

Thanks @GregRedd, I appreciate it. I hope we get that discount. I wonder if there a Samsung Smart TV app for it.

Ferrari’s 2020 challenger - the SF1000 - has had it’s reveal.

At least they put in a little more effort to the reveal than peeling back a cloth draping…

Like the Merc yesterday, the livery is very similar to last years’ with perhaps a slightly more obvious use of the black base. The black trim looks good on the racesuits. The car number on the side fin is much more obvious now, and was that Italian flag striping on the side in front of the cockpit there last year? I can’t remember it standing out so obviously. Curiously, my first thought was that there looks to be more black. That was immediately followed by “it looks more red”. Go figure.

The car itself somehow looks longer again? I don’t think it is though. Maybe it’s the slimmer rear that’s making me think that. Other visible differences are the much more pronounced rake (very clear in the side view image) and whatever they’ve got going on with the bargeboards and the area around the sidepods. So many elements and bits and winglets and stuff. And I thought we were supposed to be getting much more simplified front wings? The front wing end plates also look different - thinner and longer perhaps?

3 liveries down, 1 car revealed. Tomorrow is Renault and Red Bull. Let’s see if RB go with a provisional testing livery again this year.

And the suitably artsy “Discovering the SF1000” video is now also out:

Not official yet, but pretty reliable sources I guess…

Also, neither the Red Bull or the Renault launches today are live. Social media and web releases only.

For me the Ferrari is definitely more red - no more orange hint. The car itself looks good, I cannot wait to see all the fiddly bits.

As long as Ferrari keep the parts that made straight line good and changed the parts that made cornering and shitty tyre wear bad. Then I don’t mind if it’s similar.
