Definitely lacking a little spark, I agree. The game’s spectator mode is fine for spectating by yourself, but for a broadcast like this, I think F1 should make a bigger effort. Get Codemasters to give them developer access to all the in-game cameras, set up a mini version of the race broadcast console, pull feeds from all the players (and from their personal streams too), get their broadcast director and skeleton crew to work the feeds into a decent broadcast.
To be fair I’m not sure if Codemasters really expected the game to be thrusted into the limelight like this. I’m sure they hoped for the type of coverage they are getting, but then again perhaps didn’t bargain on it. That’s the issue with yearly releases of franchise games like this. F1 2019 is a great game, and the single player is fantastic. The multiplayer is solid in what it was built for, but it lacks those critical elements that would make it a multiplayer powerhouse.
For people (especially Lando and Max) to criticize the game so much as they are doing, comparing it to iRacing, which is a game purposely built for esports and online racing, is a bit silly. Sure, there is a long way to go, but from any simulator out there, there is not a single one that can give you the same level of quality on F1 content.
That said, I bet you that Codemasters will be furiously working on adding a proper esports element to the F1 2020 version of the game. I mean, they had last night’s race on Supersport 1. My father, you does not know a thing about gaming as a whole, sat and watched it in amazement and wonder. You know how many people are going to go out and buy equipment like wheels and pedals and stuff, all to play F1? This is going to be massive for Codies.
Absolutely this. My dad watched it on DSTV as well, we’ll see how long it is before he starts looking at getting a wheel
Hopefully Codies takes this opportunity and develops a fantastic online element to the next entry in the F1 series. It’s all very well trouncing your rival Devon Butler in the single player campaign, but I think the fans will be hungry for a fuller online experience.
I did not know this was on SS1!!! Thats huge!
Well… what else can the screen at the moment
Excellent! So when can we expect Hammer Snr. and Mol Snr. to be lining up on the MEW F1 grid? Canada or France?
My Dad was a big fan of Toca Racer 3 - used to shout at it all the time while playing. So there is a possibility.
Right, so where are we on the F1 schedule now…

Of the nine announced so far, only Australia and Monaco have been confirmed as cancelled and will not be rescheduled. The other 7 are cancelled but are hoping for a rescheduled date to be run.
There is talk now of shortening the race weekend to just two days in an effort to get more done in less time. Whatever happens, the only F1 racing we’re going to be seeing until at least late June is the virtual stuff.
RIP Sir Stirling
It is a sad day indeed. I loved the man! Even when he was an arse.
OT: Another virtual NASCAR race, another NASCAR driver in kak. This time the outcome is a lot worse than losing a sponsor or two though…
House 5, no question!
Lol Even the best in the world hate Baku Castle!
Bwahahahaha he just has no luck!
Also house 5 for me. Just because he dances like this with his daughter
Whooo, Carlos Sainz is joining tonight. I’m gonna miss the race though. Will catch the replay.
Lando issues again, sigh. It’s only him though so he can’t keep saying it’s the game.
I know some people do not like Indycar, but Lando raced them last night and got pole in qualy. Remember this is the real Indycar drivers in the official Indycar series!
Watch this as a replacement for your Sunday F1 fix. What a good race!
