Racing Point are “sharing” Reserve / Test drivers with Mercedes (and McLaren too I think) for this weird season. Officially it’s Stoffel Vandoorne or Esteban Gutierrez. But I think a lot depends on who is available - as in, in the UK and not having to quarantine.

They theoretically could use anyone with a valid F1 license if the FIA approve it, which they would.

And apparently, Esteban Gutiérrez does not have a valid superlicense at the moment… Reddit caught a tweet saying that the seat is being prepared for Hulkenburg.

Which would mean the Hulk only missed three races.
Which would mean the Hulk could realistically compete for a podium this weekend.

I really hope this is true!

I’ll be honest, I’m not a Hulkenberg fan. He is wildly overrated, was comprehensively beaten by multiple team mates, and it’s pretty much a meme at the moment that he hasn’t gotten a podium. But then again, he’s has more than his chances of getting that podium. The fact that he hasn’t gotten one speaks volumes about his lack of skill.

That said, he is better than any other options that Racing Point has at the moment.
