Naughty, naughty Red Bull. So much for Hornerā€™s ā€œconfidently under the capā€. Report is a bit thin on specifics and details, and doesnā€™t cover penalties or sanctions presumably to allow teams in breach an opportunity to appeal, please explain, etc.

Also outstanding is the who/how/where Merc and Ferrari got their insights from.

RBR still maintaining that their ā€œ2021 submission was below the cost cap limitā€. Canā€™t believe theyā€™d consciously be adding more eggs to the pile already being applied to their face. Doubling down on their innocence while seeding the probability of an appeal of some sort.

We note the findings by the FIA of ā€˜minor overspend breaches of the financial regulationsā€™ with surprise and disappointment.

Our 2021 submission was below the cost cap limit, so we need to carefully review the FIAā€™s findings as our belief remains that the relevant costs are under the 2021 cost cap amount.

Despite the conjecture and positioning of others, there is of course a process under the regulations with the FIA which we will respectfully follow while we consider all the options available to us.

im just going to call it here now. I bet that all tractors will now have huge lights installed on them soon for higher visiability

I wonder if the reactions would be the same were it to be a few marshals out on track clearing debris (which happens under double yellow), and instead of the guilt-fueled hoo-hah about tractor danger, weā€™d be having a more serious conversation about the speed gasly was going in under double yellow flags WITH SUCH SHIT VISIBILITY NEAR A CRASH SITE.

just my unpopular opinionā€¦

Agree. The biggest problem is that there is no way race control can give instructions directly to drivers.
The easiest fix would have been an instruction to keep to the pitlane speed limit in that section. Then there would not have been a need to red flag the race. And I think that is what the race control was going for.

  1. When we had marshalls clearing debris on track under double yellow at Saudi last year, I was making as big a fuss. Itā€™s a live race track. By definition, thatā€™s unsafe, even under double yellows.

  2. There were other drivers than Gasly that drove past the tractor as well. This isnā€™t a ā€œGasly drove past a tractorā€ issue, itā€™s a ā€œthere was a tractor on a live racetrackā€ issue.

  3. Gaslyā€™s speed highlights another issue: VSC and deltaā€™s are a broken system with no inherent speed limit in it. We saw that with Lando and Max at Singapore under a VSC as well, when Lando braked hard to stay within a delta. In my opinion, a hard speed limit like in the pits would work much better.

  4. ā€œGuilt-fueledā€ is a little loaded. A tractor is an incredible risk to a low racing car. For comparison, some data:
    a) Maxā€™s massive Silverstone shunt happened at around 160 mph/257 km/h and produced a force of 51g. FYI, thatā€™s a metric shitload.
    b) Romainā€™s fireball crash was at 119 mph/190 km/h, but produced 67g. Less deformation in armco than in tecpro. 1.2 metric shitloads.
    c) Jules hit the tractor at Suzuka at 78 mph/125 km/h. Because of the sturdy nature of yellow machinery, there was nothing to dissipate the load before hitting his head.

254g.

Note how there absolutely no damage to the tractor after the crash:

A tractor should never go on a live racetrack.

EDITED to add metric speeds, because its the correct speeds.

I really enjoy Athletic Interestā€™s videos. This one takes a look at pay drivers and the difficulty of getting into F1.

:us: 2022 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix :us:

Round 19 | Circuit of the Americas | Austin | Texas

Stetsons, stars, and stripes dominate the scene as the F1 circus arrives to pitch its tent in Cowboy Country. Yeeha, itā€™s Texas baby! And all that. (America really needs some new stereotypes.) Iā€™m glad at least that DRic is making the most of his last visit to Austin - he loves it there. And America loves them some wholesome Honey Badger.

COTA also (allegedly) planning a nice send off for one of their favourites: Seb Vettel. Weā€™ll need to wait a bit to see how their Danke Seb tribute goes.

Austin has seen some lively action in the past. And hopefully this year is no different, despite SuperMax having already clinched the WDC.

The Constructorā€™s Championship is not quite decided yet, so thereā€™s still some work left for the Red Bulls to do if they want to lock that trophy down this weekend too. And even if it were, I get the feeling that young Master Verstappen has an need to try and get his name alongside as many F1 records as he can, as quickly as he can. I donā€™t think he or Red Bull will be taking things easy for the remaining four races this season.

The Schedule

Yankee Doodle time is all upside down for us. Itā€™s got something to with the sun and the moon and the stars, or something. I donā€™t know. Itā€™s time zone stuff. And itā€™s Friday afternoon, and Iā€™m tired. Look at the schedule. Watch F1 at those times. Sorted.

The Circuit

Itā€™s a fine place for a Formula 1 race. The Circuit of the Americas (or just COTA) has quickly entrenched itself in the happy place lists of many of the drivers. This year sees the circuit host its 10th US Grand Prix.

The first, and still only, permanent, purpose built for Formula 1 circuit in the United States, The Circuit of The Americas, designed by Hermann Tilke, endured something of a nervy start, with construction suffering several setbacks. It was 1978 F1 champion Mario Andretti who officially opened the track on 21 October 2012 - Happty Birthday COTA! :cake:

When was its first Grand Prix?
F1 first raced at the Circuit of The Americas in 2012, for the first United States Grand Prix since the 2007 race at Indianapolis. Unsurprisingly, over 100,000 spectators packed out the Austin venue, witnessing Lewis Hamiltonā€™s last ever win in a McLaren before his switch to Mercedes for 2013.

Whatā€™s the circuit like?
If the corners at COTA seem familiar, they should be. Turns 3 through 6 look not dissimilar to Silverstoneā€™s high-speed run through Maggotts/Becketts or the S Curves at Suzuka, while Turns 12 through 15 mimic Hockenheimā€™s stadium section. Meanwhile, the uphill run into wide, wide Turn 1 ā€“ hey, everythingā€™s bigger in Texas, right? ā€“ has provided some fine overtaking action in the trackā€™s short life.

The Weather

The autumn weather in central Texas is generally fine, but they do get some serious rain showers and thunderstorms at times. Remember those nightmare skies and the torrential rain and flash flooding scenes back in 2015?

Fortunately, this year it looks like the bad weather is only going to arrive in the area after the weekend, and teams are going to be having to contend with clear skies and temperatures in the low 30s.

The News

As usual, all the news and official information comes to the F1 site a little slower than other places, but it gets there eventually.

The Free Digital Programme

The US GP also gets delivered to us with its own dedicated Digital Programme. So we can all live vicariously and pretend like weā€™re right there.

lol I heard of this, but havenā€™t watched a single Formula E race. Maybe Iā€™ll go check this out as a precusor to F1, if it finally happens.
What I really want to do though is watch the World RX at Killarney, never went when it was here and now its not anymore :frowning:
