Not holding my breath. Gayton ā€œPromisesā€ McKenzie says lots of things that donā€™t actually happen. Would love for him to prove me wrong though.

I mean, ā€œOur first meeting is end of August in Monaco.ā€ sounds like an excuse to go on an expensive jol to Monaco. Have a Zoom meeting Mr Minister, itā€™s a lot cheaper and just as effective!

Fair point. Still, we live in hope.

Iā€™ve never heard of him before he was appointed to the sport portfolio. What promises did he previously make?

On topic: I agree. Iā€™ll trust a politician as far as I can throw them with straining my back, so I have zero hope hereā€¦ but if he can pull it off, I might just vote for him if he wants to be president!

A random selection of headlines:

  • ā€˜Mayor of all peopleā€™ Gayton McKenzie makes big promises
  • Gayton McKenzie promises to bring back the death penalty
  • McKenzie faces heat over ā€˜hollow promisesā€™
  • Patriotic Alliance leader promises to enforce by laws and chase undocumented immigrants out of city
  • Mckenzie to move Joburg mayoral office to Hillbrow if given top job
  • McKenzie makes promises to revitalise Eskom in just 5 months
  • Gayton McKenzie promises mass deportations if PA comes into power

Excellent (long read) recent article by Ivo Vegter in BizNews about McKenzie concludes with:

McKenzie wants to be taken seriously and to be considered respectable, but his actions are those of a gangster who will happily sell out his own people for a seat at the table.

More Pikachu faceā€¦

Still not convinced this is the best move for Haas. I mean, I rate Ocon okay and he should be fine in the Haas, but if it were me, Iā€™d have held onto KMag for another year to help bed Ollie Bearman in nicely, and then maybe gone looking for a new ā€œseniorā€ driver to start with the 2026 regs in place.

But thatā€™s just me. And Iā€™ve only finished one race as Team Principal of Redd Racing F1 Team, with my drivers BOT in P12 and RIC in P11, in F1 Manager 2024, so what do I know?

Knowing Ocon, heā€™s going to fight with Ollie haha

Before I get a chance to post about the raceā€¦ Boom

While Iā€™m at it, interesting race, so close that anyone could have won, except Ferrari of course. That being said, at least Le Clerc ended 4th. From pole :upside_down_face:
I guess Checo wonā€™t be sticking around next year.

This WDC seems wide, open. Unless RB comes back after the break.

Speaking of breakā€¦ No more races for a while

Edit: wait, Iā€™m dumb, then Le Clerc actually got 3rd

I wonder if the Russell DQ lands up saving Checo? So curious to see those performance targets of his. Something like ā€œMust be within 150 points of Max by the summer breakā€ would have seen him out before the changes, but would mean he is now safe.

Iā€™m sure itā€™s not as simple as that. Checo went from P2 to P8/7 while Max did the opposite in the same equipment. Taken together with Markoā€™s comments about Checoā€™s performance, ā€œhe completely collapsedā€, and Hornerā€™s, ā€œwe have all the information we needā€ and his very visible conversation with Daniel Ricciardo, I think Checo is done.

So, what odds on RIC being in the Red Bull seat from after the break, and Lawson finishing the season in the VCARB?

We thinking the calls from Checo that the car was not performing well was a ruse?
Also that early pit didnā€™t do him any favours either.

You think Yuki going to protest if Danny gets the seat? or you think the Danny seat might only be for the year.

If it happens, I think itā€™ll be RIC because heā€™s more of a known and stable character, knows the Red Bull systems and people, and they know him. A mid-season driver change will always cause disruption, so theyā€™ll try make it as smooth a change as possible. It will probably be a ā€œonly until the end of this seasonā€ thing initially. Probably slightly higher minimum performance targets to what they have with Checo, otherwise, why bother? With the understanding that if he doesnā€™t actually produce positive results, heā€™ll possibly be swapped with Yuki for the 2025 season.

Or he may even be out of a job next year if they decide that itā€™s time to let him retire again, and bring in a second youngster to team up with Lawson. Who are the other Red Bull Academy drivers showing promise at the moment?

Iā€™ll always wonder what Perez had on them that he lasted as long as he didā€¦Remember Gasly? Remember Albon? Red Bull were NOT hesitant to rotate that 2nd seat when results werenā€™t forthcomingā€¦

Maybe Perez had those whatsapp chats between Horner and that ladyā€¦and now its out heā€™s lost his leverage

yeah that actually makes a lot of sense Mr Redd.

Lol maybe theyā€™re just really trying this time, coz both those drivers that got swapped immediately did better where they went. Everyone shows promise up until they get into that second seat then womp wompā€¦

Which makes me go back to my original train of thought.
Either that car is made to fit Maxā€™s style of driving and the others donā€™t drive the same.
Or, the Red Bull is actually bad and Max is just that good

I think itā€™s also a case of they know how RIC performs compared to Max, in the same car as Max. They know how Yuki compares with RIC. They have minimal comparative data between Yuki and Lawson in a more stable environment that super subbing, and they really need that to make their decision.

Checo has massive sponsors bringing cash to Red Bull. So massive that his sponsors effectively pays Maxā€™s massive salary. Iā€™m guessing that weā€™re nearing D-day simply because Checoā€™s performance clauses will soon allow Red Bull to dump him with having to pay back the money.

Williams was really pushing hard hey. Hope all the best for him and Albon and that Williams keeps improving.

Typical. The day I turn the internet off so I can focus on getting work stuff done is the day the Carlos announcement gets made. :grinning: now all thatā€™s left for Williams is to scoop up Adrian Newey and theyā€™ll be back in World Championship contention by 2026!

Also see some fairly confident sounding reports that Perez will be staying at Red Bull. I guess the money matters, even to them.
