Hardly a free pass. The strategy worked out perfectly.
Heart broken for Daniel, missed exactly what broke on a brand new bloody engine. . . .
Vettel pushed to hard, it was a stupid mistake I have to admit, but it broke my heart - his reaction in the car was just heartbreaking
Hmmm⌠Could the result still change? A penalty could hand the win to Bottas.
Yeah, not a huge fan of Ferrari, but I admire Seb as a driver, and that was pretty sad to see. Also ruined my Superbru a bit.
Definitely his own fault. But yeah, sucks when you were controlling a race and make such an error at the worst spot.
The stewards have decided not to penalize Hamilton, so he retains the win.
Another chaotic race full of stupid decisions and so many mistakes, from a lot of teams.
Firstly, great drive by Hamilton to win the race, from P14! I canât believe he actually pulled it off. And well done to Merc for not messing up the strategy this time around. Probably the only team this weekend that raced a nearly fault free race for both their drivers, bar some communication issues with Hamilton.
Ferrari lost this race the moment they brought in Kimi for an early pitstop. He was clearly on a different strategy, yet they kept him in front of Vettel way too long. Vettel got rattled because his tired were going off behind Kimi. And after they released him, he was pushing too much to try and regain control of the race. The pressure got to him, and it was sad to see him go into the barrier and hear his voice.
Red Bull just had a pedestrian race, but why the hell they brought Max in for inters when it clearly wasnât wet enough is beyond me. Actually, on that note, who was the bright spark that thought full bloody wets for Gasly??? So many teams were caught out completely by the weather.
Also, this yearâs F1 is basically a multiclass event. You have the 3 front teams, and the rest, and the difference between the two are day and night. Itâs sad to see and I for one welcome any rule that would make the teams more equal.
Overall I enjoyed the race.
Vettel made a n00b mistake on an easy corner. Kimi was just being Kimi.
However the man showing his skills this weekend (besides Hamilton being the overachiever he is) was Bottas. If it wasnât for the âPlease hold your positionâ message Iâm sure heâd have taken Hamilton and the win.
However what is grinding my gears is this engine conservation rubbish. Like with Ricciardo, he lost power and instead of letting him limp to the pits itâs just âswitch off and stopâ. How about get to the pits and try and get the damn car out again.
What would the point be? It may have been a relatively minor issue, but could also have been one of those that take four hours and a complete car strip to fix. Letâs say they get it running again; what do you benefit by skating around a damp circuit, ten laps behind the field?
All about the $$$ I reckon.
These cars are wayyyy to sensitive to take a chance and crawl it back to pits. Sounds like the entirety of the cars revolve around hydraulics, and if something kaks in one place it can have much larger repercussions somewhere else in the vehicle. Losing 1 min to limp back, then another X min to fix it would surely put them out of points position, so not worth it I reckon
Thatâs just it, for every possibly minor/major issue the response is just âswitch off and stopâ
Plenty things can be fixed in 5min and the telemetry data gathered from a car completing laps is invaluable for further development and improvement.
I watched the start then from lap 30 onwards.
The first half I was cleaning up the house.
My thoughts.
Poor Bottas - 15second pit stop as they had the wrong tyres out for him, then told to hold position the first time he has actually showed any aggression on course this year.
Lewis - he is good, but lady luck was on his side yesterday. Good Race.
Seb - WTF, shame buddy.
Max - as mentioned above, just a bystander
Danny - Conspiricy alert : RBR is giving him kak setups so nobody will sign him
Kimi - Traffic screwed him a bit. I cant stand that magnasun. was not really moving off the racing line under blue flags.
All in all was a frustrating race as a RBR fan but a good race to watch.
P.S - I would support new rules to bridge the gap in car performances. Maybe not budget caps, but something has to be done as its now like watching lemans with the different categories.
If you eff up and are in P15 it must not be an easy jaunt to get back to the top 6.
I donât agree with the points positionâŚunless there are <10% of the race remaining, i reckon anyone in the top 6 at the moment would be able to score points with a 1 minute pit stopâŚi mean when number 6 is lapping number 7 then you know the gap from the top 3 constructors to rest of field is just ridiculous. From start of race, RBR, Mercs and Ferrari know that even starting from the pit stop is a guaranteed 6th place at WORST as long as the car gets it to the end of the raceâŚ
I think with any other racing it would be okay to crawl back to pits. But With F1 there is too many variables and every second counts. There is also way too much money involved. It is not racing as most people think of racing. It is tactical more than anything else
Oh no I completely agree, the cost per engine/component when something gets damaged is huge. I was just disagreeing with your last statement saying that getting car back out would mean no points scored and therefore not worth it. Its definitely not due to them thinking they wouldnât score points
Iâm inclined to agree that itâs likely just to save costs and possible penalties down the line for having to replace engines or other powertrain parts
That moment he hit the wall, that said it all.
As much as I love the guy, he has been making stupid mistakes like this one.
Lewis did it better this weekend. He is becoming more irritating, but he did well.
I also agree that the gap between the top 4 (sorry Redbull I love you but wtf?) and the rest is beyond silly now.
almost 30secs this weekend between 1st and 5th. The rest is getting further and further behind each race.
Hats off to Leclerc doing that pirouette and having the car facing the right way. The race just got away from him. As much as I love him as a rookie, I would leave him in Sauber another year for more experience.
Torro Rosso just needed a slap for the full wets - it was barely wet enough for inters, nevermind full wets.
