And now Lewis does basically the same time as Vettel did this morning on the C5 tyre, a 1:16.2. The gauntlet is down!
Aaaand that’s all she wrote, folks! 2019 pre season testing is officially in the rear view mirror.
Final times for the day:
Lap count for today is as follows. Tons of laps for most teams, except Red Bull.
Sainz - 134
Raikkonen - 132
Kvyat - 131
Vettel - 110
Perez - 104
Magnussen - 94
Kubica - 90
Grosjean - 73
Bottas - 71
Hamilton - 61
Ricciardo - 52
Hulkenberg - 51
Verstappen - 29
See that is what I wanted to see, altho I have to admit I am surprised Toto allowed it
Same boat, I am a Riccardo fan. Supported Red Bull Last year, now I guess Renault.
I like(d) Redbull, but their Bull of swapping drivers like undies will hurt them.
2017/2018 they where so confident with the depth of their pool they had no problem with giving Hartley the crap cars and threaten to chop him.
Anywhoo, this season I might just be watching the best of the rest fight
Question for those who have watched this: Do you agree with Autosport’s current ranking? They currently have it as:
- Ferrari
- Mercedes
- Red Bull
- Haas
- Renault
- Alfa Romeo
- Toro Rosso
- Racing Point
- McLaren
- Williams
Kimmi’s mere presence should put AR 4th <3
Based purely on the Barcelona testing I would say that’s accurate.

Bit of skinner that didn’t make this weeks YOU magazine
It’s interesting that Hulkenberg has only one yellow set.
He either never found the happy spot on them or the car is not happy on them, Ricciardo seems to go the safe route
My only guess is that they’re planning to run a longish stint on the hard tyres to try and leapfrog other teams pitting for tyres and then laying down the hammer with a set of soft tyres
The problem is Australia is a traditional one stop. Everyone else is going to start on the red soft, then move to the yellow mediums for the final part of the race. If the Hulk only has one set of yellow softs, then he will use them in the race, untested on the track, or risk being at least 0.5 seconds a lap slower than anyone else around him on the yellow softs.
Also the Renault with its yellow will look nice with the yellow set of tyres.
Haha.
Yeah, my suspicion is that he’ll go out on the hard tyres and try and push for as long as possible and then pit for a set of soft tyres. However it’s anyone’s guess as to what will actually happen.
In theory, if he has sufficient pace he could jump far enough ahead to secure a top 10 finish, but the grip on those hard tyres might not be enough
Was there any feedback from the test regarding tyre blistering?
Not that I heard of
So the new tyre colours is meant to simplify the options for others but it’s confusing things more for me. I understand that it’s now just down to hard, medium and soft. But I’m still keen to know what the actual tyre is. What is C4? Super or Ultra soft?
Edit: wait a sec, I scrolled up to the testing times and I see C5 is the highest number(Softest, I gather from the Australia choices image above), so I assume that is Hypersoft. Then C4 would be Ultra.
Excuse me for breaking my own brain there.
