The Game Awards 2021

Not to be confused with The Most Epic Game of the Year Awards (which you better go vote on now!), The Game Awards is the annual global gaming awards programme created and hosted by Geoff Keighly since 2014.

The Game Awards, the video game industry’s biggest annual year-end celebration, today announced its 2021 nominees with Deathloop, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, It Takes Two, and Psychonauts 2 leading nominations. Spotlighting the leading games, studios and creatives from 2020-2021 that propelled the games industry forward, this year’s impressive list of nominees includes 107 different games, individuals, teams and events spanning across a multitude of gaming genres and platforms.

This years’ Game Awards ceremony takes places on 9 December, and, as usual, will be streamed live across multiple channels (links to follow). Unfortunately, the US-based broadcast begins at 19:30 EST there, which means if you want to watch it live here in South Africa the show starts at 01:30 in the morning. :expressionless: Rebroadcasts and VODs for the win!

Activision/Blizzard are persona non grata at The Game Awards 2021.

Is this due to its ongoing turmoil on the work culture and sexual harassment etc.?

Pretty much. More because of the lack of change despite assurances that change would be happening.

Some amazing looking games announced!

As a horror and scifi fan I’m really happy.

I was really disappointed by the show for the most part. Can’t believe I got up at 3 and watched the whole thing waiting for something awesome to happen. There were a few decent announcements but overall it was a bit meh for me. Looking forward to Space Marine 2 though.

Agree with you… a lot to look forward to over the next two or so years… Star Wars, Alan Wake, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, The Expanse, Homeworld, and more.

I’m so happy to see that Kena did so well, that game deserves it. I need to get my SO to play It Takes Two with me.

Yeah, I learned that lesson last year… it’s definitely a “catch the highlights reel the day after” type of show for me. That, and trawl YouTube for all the reveal and announcement trailers

Dude. Those trailers for Homeworld and Dune got me so moist.

So much nostalgia for Homeworld that I got goodies just watching that. And watching that Dune trailer made me so comfortable and made my hair stand up. I invested so much into Dune across many forms as a lightie, from novels to games and even shows and movies.

It’s a good time to be a gamer.

That is how my wife felt about Napoleon Dynamite. She said to hersefl, “surely the movie cannot be this bad all the way, something has to happen…”.

She hates that movie…
