The Masters Tournament, the first major tournament of the year, has officially kicked off with the honorary starters teeing off.
The legendary Gary Player, with an emotional tee shot, kicked it off, followed by inimitable Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson.
The 87th Masters is held at Augusta National, one of the oldest and most exclusive clubs in the US. Over 4 days the best players in the world compete for the coveted green jacket. It is also a tournament not hosted by the PGA, and thus the LIV Golf tour pros can still compete.
The Masters website at, you guessed it, Masters.com, has an amazing shot tracker in the browser, for EVERY SHOT PLAYED! You can rotate and zoom and analyse the shots and feel like a commentator!
You can also track your favourite players and see how they progress over the weekend.
There are 3 South Africans taking part this year:
Louis Oothuizen - Louis’ Masters Page
Charl Schwartzel - Charl’s Masters Page
Aldricht Potgieter, an amateur player! - Aldricht’s Masters Page
On their player’s pages you can see their score cards as well as a clip of every shot played on the course, along with statistics and analyses!
The Thursday pin locations are normally not the most difficult, but this course is by no means an easy one. The best winning score over the 72 hole weekend has been an 18 under par.
The players to look out for are the three players switching the #1 spot on the rankings:
- defending champ Scottie Scheffler who has been playing some seriously solid golf lately.
- the 4 time major winner Rory McIlroy, still hunting for his 1st green jacket.
- the big Spaniard, Jon Rahm who is posing a real threat.
