The Topic of Life, The Universe, and Everything

I drove around today and it was fine. The only weirdness was the M5/N1 interchange was closed by police, and all traffic was being diverted via side roads through Maitland and Ndabeni. And the big Salt River circle by Observatory also had a bunch of police and was closed off from some sides. I don’t know if those two things were related to the protests though. Otherwise, I drove through Epping, Elsie’s Rivier, Parow, Kuils Rivier, Blue Downs and Faure to Somerset West, and everything was normal.

I’m having sushi for dinner and I remembered that I wanted to tell you - if you enjoy sushi and you like wasabi, you should absolutely try real proper actual wasabi root while in Japan! Our fake green horseradish paste will never compare to the actual thing.

Morning all.

Back in Tokyo for the last few days of our trip before Mrs Redd has to start working and I get to hang on the tailcoats for an excursion or two before I leave her to the wolves and head back home. Celebrating the last day of the holiday portion of our trip with a visit to a Japanese Head Spa:man_in_steamy_room:t2: Yeah, my life is tough right now

We inherited an older first generation Xiaomi Smart Pet Food Dispenser. It’s efficient enough for the purpose, and it still works well through the Xiaomi Home app for scheduling when and how much food to dispense, despite being a bit old. But as for recommend it, I definitely wouldn’t pay the silly expensive price for a new one. I think there’s a v2 model out now. But you can get one that may need a little more manual setting up and without fancy app features, for a quarter of the price of a new Xiaomi one.

Oh, and konnichiwa and good morning from a grey and currently very rainy Tokyo.

It’s a night and day difference :squinting_face_with_tongue: between the night view and the morning view from our hotel.

Fortunately, we’re mostly indoors today and it should be dry by this time tomorrow:crossed_fingers:t2:when we’ll be traipsing around outdoors with 40 school kids and their teachers. The joys of travel.

Thanks, I think we’ll likely go with a simply mechanical/gravity feeder for the 3 days we’re away, it’s the cheaper option. Thankfull Oreo isn’t a gorge-eater and grazes more than anything.

Safely back in PTA! Mostly…
A VW Amarok drove into the back of the work car at the Grasmere Toll Plaza yesterday afternoon on my way home. Just a fender bender, but still annoying. Spent the morning at the police station filling out the accident report and am waiting for insurance details from the client so I can put in the claim and get it repaired.

But yay for home and some time to rest.

The Akihabara area where I spent the morning is a trip. I would have liked to see it at night - huge illuminated billboards, video ads, neon and lights all over.

It’s the center of Tokyo’s anime, electronics, collector, hobby and gaming. Huge multi storey buildings with trading card stores, collectibles, figures, gaming and anime character toys.

Multi storey PC, Apple, Mobile, Components store and a massive (like a full city block massive) floor full of electronics, cameras, wearables.

The amount of stuff they have for sale is overwhelming. And all the stores are busy with mostly locals and a handful of tourists.

Heading to the airport soon to start the day and a bit trek back to the motherland. Travelling via Singapore with a 8 hour layover, so I’ll go take pics of the fancy airport terminal there.
