We’re thrilled to reveal that, together with Fools Theory, we’re working on remaking The Witcher using Unreal Engine 5 (codename: Canis Majoris)! We want to do this right, so please be patient — it’s gonna be a while until we can share more details.
“The Witcher is where it all started for us, for CD PROJEKT RED. It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then. Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it feels just as big, if not bigger,” said Adam Badowski, Head of Studio, CD PROJEKT RED.
“Collaborating with Fool’s Theory on the project is just as exciting, as some of the people there have been previously involved in The Witcher games. They know the source material well, they know how much gamers have been looking forward to seeing the remake happen, and they know how to make incredible and ambitious games. And although it will take some time before we’re ready to share more about and from the game, I know it’ll be worth the wait.”
Posting this today so that I can see the forum software kak on me in a few years time when I necro the topic when the remake actually releases!
I am, obviously, jumping out of my skin in excitement for this. I cannot wait to see what it looks like and what it plays like. I have finished the original game more times than I can remember (actually), but I think I will do one last playthrough before the remake comes.
I haven’t gotten further than 20 or so minutes into the original. I was spoiler by no 3 by that time, so I’ll definitely jump into the remake the moment it launches. I was also giddy when I read the reveal on Reddit last night…
I still believe the writing in the original is some of the best in the series. The combat is a bit weird but I actually like the rhythm based attacks. It has some really cool finisher animations as well.
The first thing they’re gonna cut from the game will most likely be the “sexy time” cards. I can’t see how that will fly in today’s society .
