“This is not the greatest topic in the world… this is just a tribute”

Was literally looking at them, and then…

Bloody nerds got nothing better to do on a Monday morning than flood the site for specials instead of working so that I can shop at my leisure!

From Carbonite

"Check out Evetechs website, apparently up to 50% off sales going on there.

Just seems sketchy, because they advertising things like their mousepads R150 (Save R150) but they usually sell them for R200? So essentially you are saving 25% and not 50%?
Seems like what takealot is doing by bumping up the price so the special seems like a massive deal.

There are some nice deals, like the 144hz Samsung monitor for R2999. Just quite annoying that they marking up shit and making it seem like you save a lot.
e.g 4 Pack Aeolus fans for R569 (Save R231) but their normal price on the site is R599 (I know this because I’ve been watching these for a while now.)

RIP Evetech, hopefully their black friday sales will be more actual deals and not fake ass takealot wannabe specials."

I realized the exact same thing

Its why I am not watching these sales at all,

I feel most companies are trying to rip us off.

Urgh, hate it when companies don’t do websites in a way that can sustain high levels of traffic

I felt the same about the specials untill i realised that “up to 50%” does not mean everything is 50% off, them grammer covering their ass

Finally setting down for lunch. Spent the last while setting up a serial port print server.

I came across this quote today.

An object in possession seldom retains the same charm that it had in pursuit. –Pliny the Younger

It seems that Pliny the Younger also had trouble keeping his Steam library in check

I can also see this quote being quite relevant to all those with buyers remorse after Black Friday.

Finally home. What a long day. Hope y’all had a good one!

I don’t think that’s true in this case. This last attack was over 300Gbps. Even their traffic clearing house (Hurricane Electric, I think) were apparently getting upset with the amount of attack traffic Cool Ideas was bringing onto their network in London.

Paul and Andre have also employed Roelf Diedericks, who is one of the top networking guys in South Africa.

RSAWEB, Afrihost, Cybersmart, Cool Ideas… they’ve all been brought low by DDoS attacks in the last few months and according to Laurie Fialkov from Cybersmart mitigating against such carpet bombing attacks is not as easy as some commentators and analysts are making it out to be.

(An aside, on one of your other points: Are they trying to run a profitable ISP? Of course… that stands to reason for any company. Some companies (cough Electronic Arts cough) take it too far, but I don’t think Cool Ideas falls in the camp of cutting corners for short-term gain.)
