Well, a “toast” is those little floating balloon status messages that pop up when performing an action in apps. It became popularised with Google’s material design. Is it perhaps what you’re referring to?

Exactly what I was referring to.

My argument is that they have this term sprawling through our end user documentation and my argument is that our user base not going to have any clue what this is. Rather use a more general term like notification.
