My wife did make quite a couple of cakes for around 2 years. She stopped because it was too expensive. @wenzdayz it never works out that cheap for ingredients. R300 is very very low for a proper birthday cake. Especially if you go with something like cream cheese icing. Remember to calculate in “ingredients” you don’t think of buying, like electricity, water and dishwashing soap (for washing up). Then add in your time and decide how much money you’re like per hour.
There’s a reason bespoke birthday cakes cost upwards of R1000… My wife’s average price was closer to R1500 and even then it was half of what other full-time bakers were charging.

The cost I calculated was just the bare minimum ingredients only that I would need to make one simple chocolate cake without time and effort and I’m no expert baker so it won’t be like super fancy. I just needed an idea of what part timers charge not really professional bakers.
There is a lady in my neighbourhood that bakes plain sheet cakes with a printed top and she charges between 300 and 500 depending on size. So I’m happy to charge my friend 450-500 for a cake.

We’ve got 14% packet loss here.
We were going through MTN when they set us up on Monday, because there were problems with Neotel, but I see we’re on Neotel again tonight.
Regardless, I’m doing a ping test on one of their internal IPs, so its definitely their systems.

Hmm, wonder if this internal IP belongs to Neotel… Wish I’d saved the traceroute’s I did when we were routed through MTN.
My guess is Neotel is cheaper for them…
