I had a huge collection as a kid (and as an adult I still love my plushies but I have a doggo who destroys them so no more for me). I cant remember who lead the teddy bear drive in the early 2000’s time, but I donated all my teddys except for a select few to the police who used to hand them out to kids they rescued.
Also had over 100 stuffed animals growing up, mostly bears.
And might I add… TIME TO DISCO!
Top tip: If you want to wish someone a happy Teddy Bear day don’t use the acronym. Happy TB day!
I still have my Teddy Bear from when I was 1 year old, no longer sleeping with it, but I shall forever keep it.
I think there is one in a cupboard somewhere, I should give it away.

Today is: World Suicide Prevention Day
Suicide is a problem that affects all age groups, genders, and social strata, and it seems sometimes to be utterly inescapable. World Suicide Prevention Day raises awareness about this tragic issue and works to prevent it through education and support of those who struggle with suicidal thoughts every day.
An estimated 800,000 people commit suicide each year throughout the world, which is one every 40 seconds. Equally disheartening is that it is estimated that for every person who does commit suicide, 25 others will attempt it. That’s over 4 million people over the world every year. There’s something of a ripple down effect that happens as well. Those bereaved by the loss of a loved one to suicide are themselves more likely to commit suicide.
Thankfully there are organizations like the World Health Organization who fight to combat this epidemic. With the philosophy of ‘Connect, Communicate, Care’ they work to create a world in which suicide rates are reduced or even eliminated.
Observing World Suicide Prevention Day involves working to help fight suicide. Connect with those who you discover may be in some form of emotional distress or considering suicide. Let them know they aren’t alone, and feel free to share bits of yourself in return.
You also have to open the avenues of communication, to be able to truly let others feel like you’re a safe place they can come to and be taken seriously without judgement. Too often are those suffering from real debilitating depression and suicidal thoughts met with comments like “You’re just making it up” or “You’re being melodramatic”, when in fact their struggles are very real.
World Suicide Prevention Day encourages you to truly care about those around you, and to work to help end the epidemic before it claims someone you love.
Know you are not alone.

Today is: Make Your Bed Day
Make Your Bed Day aims to make everyone aware of the benefits of making the bed every morning! Not to be confused with ‘Aww, Mom, Do I Have To?’ Day, which runs for 364 days in the year, this day is a delightful departure from complaining and encourages folks to enjoy making their beds!
One of the easiest chores that can be accomplished, Make Your Bed Day is filled with fun-filled ways to look at making the bed from a different perspective.
The phrase “make your bed” probably began as early as times when a bed was nothing more than a simple mat on the floor. Tidying up the sleeping space would have been more crucial when families also used sleeping spaces as living spaces; the kid who didn’t make their bed caused the rest of the family to trip over it throughout the day!
But even in more modernized cultures with separate bedrooms, the act of bed making can be filled with many benefits. It seems that getting into the habit of making your bed is a great boon to mental health. Not only that, but having a tidy sleep environment, according to sleep researchers, makes for more restful sleep.
Plus, it could be assumed that starting the day with at least one ‘chore’ already done and dusted creates a more positive attitude and can help a person take the rest of the day’s challenges in stride! As the bed is the focal point of the bedroom, when it’s made, the whole room looks tidier, and becomes more relaxing and less stressful as a result.
While some people may think this day sounds like a chore–it’s not! Once people learn the benefits behind it, Make Your Bed can become a delightful day to celebrate.
In addition to just having a nicer place to live, making your bed can provide these benefits:
- Improved Sleep Quality. Sleeping in a calm, clean room helps with relaxation and promotes a better night of sleep, according to the National Sleep Foundation (Bedroom Environment: What Elements Are Important? | Sleep Foundation)
- Increased Productivity. Piggybacking on the idea that an object in motion stays in motion, when humans start one small thing, they tend to have more of an ability to do other things as well. On the other hand, plagued by inertia, people who do nothing tend to remain stagnant, unchanged, unmotivated and….unmade!
- Reduced Stress. A clear link has been made between the way that living and working in an organized space can improve mental health. Fight against the chaos first thing in the morning by making up that bed.
Go get those corners crisp and sharp, and those pillows fully fluffed!
Today is also The 20th Anniversary of the 911 Terror Attack
The September 11 attacks , often referred to as 9/11 , were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacksby the militant Islamist terrorist group al-Qaeda against the United States of America on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001.

Never forget.
I make the bed every morning as soon as I wake up, just to get it done.
Ok fine mom, I’ll make the bed
Everyday is make the bed day.
I remember 9/11 I was watching Pokemon and my dad came home and changed the channel he had seen the first plane crash at the pub. We saw the second at home.
I remember coming home from one of my exams in matric and witnessing it. Never forget.

Today is: Video Games Day
September 12 is National Video Games Day. Or, at least, it might be. Even game historian Frank Cifaldi (yes, there are video game historians!) at the Video Game History Foundation traced back the holiday and couldn’t pin down the date (July? September?), who started the holiday and why, or even if the holiday is properly called “National Video Game Day,” “National Video Games Day” (plural), or “Video Games Day.”
We didn’t celebrate the day in July, and considering that MEWs existence and the reason that most of us are here is because of video games, it is only right the we do today.
We all know the Playstation, the PC, the Xbox, the Gameboy, and all the other myriad examples of gaming devices out there in the world today. Gaming is a pervasive part of our culture, coloring everything from our choices in clothing to our taste in cuisine, there are even themed restaurants that are entirely dedicated to gamers and the games they love. Video Games Day is dedicated to recalling this defining part of our culture and sharing it with our fellow gamers, new and old alike.
It does not matter whether you are a video game fanatic or you are someone who barely plays video games, Video Games Day provides you with the opportunity to embrace this form of fun. You can binge on old school games, try out new games, or complete a level that has been bugging you for quite some time! It is completely up to you, and no one is going to tell you that you’re having too much screen time. After all, there are no rules when it comes to Video Games Day, right?
Despite the fact that video games often get a bad rap because children play them so much, there are actually a number of benefits that are associated with video games. Did you know that they can actually be good for you? Of course, not all of the games on the market today provide educational value, yet there are some that involve teamwork and problem-solving, and they have been shown to enhance the gray matter in your brain, ultimately growing it. By playing video games, you can actually increase a number of different skills, ranging from communication skills to problem-solving.
The benefits do not end there when it comes to video games either. Video games can also increase happiness. After all, they provide a lot of fun. However, it is more than that. Recent studies have shown that adults who play video games are more relaxed and less stressed when compared with those who do not. Plus, the rush that you get when you complete a level that was difficult to overcome is a great feeling.
It is also worth touching on the fact that video games push and inspire tech boundaries. The first video games that were created were deemed modern phenomenons, and since then, video games have been wowing and amazing us. If you have ever slid on a VR headset, you will know exactly what we are talking about. The video games that are on the market today are incredibly exciting and boast the most impressive graphics. If this is something that really interests you, you may want to consider doing a career in this part of gaming and technology in the future.
Get gaming!
My kind of day… Every day!
I think I can come up with a way to celebrate

Today is: Positive Thinking Day
Positive Thinking Day is a time set aside each year to concentrate on all things positive. An American entrepreneur started this day in 2003 so that people could commemorate the many rewards that can be found in thinking positively.
Positive Thinking Day is all about encouraging positive thoughts! On this date, no negative thoughts are allowed! There are a lot of people in life who tend to view the negative in every situation, rather than the positive. This isn’t always bad, of course. It can mean that you are prepared for the worst and always pleasantly surprised. However, too much negativity can be bad for the soul. In fact, you can prolong your life with happiness and optimism. So, on this date, and other dates too, try to encourage yourself to think positively.
There are a number of different techniques and approaches that you can use to try and be more of a positive thinker. This includes catching your thoughts and reframing them. If you find yourself having a negative reaction to something, try to change your perspective. You need to be in that moment. Recognize that you are thinking about something from a negative standpoint. Take a few moments to think about the positives. You can even write them down.
Remember, the positives don’t have to be huge, monumental wins. They can be small wins. A lot of small wins throughout the day can result in great positive thinking overall. Baby steps, as they say!
Another way to be more of a positive thinker is to be aware of your automatic reactions. What is your natural and go-to way of reacting? Are you someone that will think their entire day is ruined if you spill your coffee over yourself on the way to work? Are you the type of person that will laugh it off and try to look on the bright side? Perhaps you have been drinking too much coffee anyway? Maybe it gives you the perfect excuse to go out and buy that shirt you have been wanting for quite some time now?
If you fall into the negative category, don’t be harsh on yourself. Instead, be aware of this, and think about how you can start changing this behavior so that you can be more positive on a day-to-day basis.
There are a lot of benefits that are associated with positive thinking. There are a number of studies, which have been published online, which show that the risk of heart disease can be lowered through positive thinking and that stress can be reduced as well. Studies have also shown that positive thinking can increase a person’s life span and lower depression as well.
We have even come across studies that have revealed that there is a link between positive thinking and increasing the resistance of the body to the common cold. You could even spend a little bit of time on Positive Thinking Day looking into the benefits of positive thinking and the various studies that have been carried out.
- Start the day positively by saying “Today is going to be a good day!” This will set the tone for the day ahead of you.
- Say some affirmations. These are positive sentences about you or your circumstances that can give you boldness, confidence and self-esteem.
- Hang around with positive people.
- Show gratitude for the simple things in life.
- Read or watch positive, motivational books and movies.
- Be kind to someone today.
- Finally, the best thing you can do for yourself and others, today and everyday is to simply smile.
Stay positive, and have a brilliant day!
B+ should be my blood type.
If the universe conserves energy, are there a bunch of people thinking negative thoughts?
Have you been on a Reddit forum lately? So many toxic, angry, unpleasant humans all over the place.
I’m not part of those subreddits. There’s plenty good on there
Im the one faking the smile - fake it till you make it. Its not always easy. But I am always nice to people, even when I shouldn’t be.
