We’ve had similar topics to this before but I’ve seen this popping up more and more. The current generation of consoles ran from November 2013 until now.

  1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
  2. Red Dead Redemption 2
  3. Dark Souls 3
  4. Torment: Tides of Numenera
  5. Life is Strange

Kudos to anyone remembering games they played this generation, I barely remember what games I played last year.

Here are the ones I can think of.

It’s very difficult to make lists like this, I’m sure I’ll change my mind on this before the end of the day, and several more times after that, but here goes anyway.

Oh man this is a very tough list to make. Luckily I track my list of greatest games as well and update it periodically. I’m a bit behind but it give me a good indication of the games of the last generation I played. Also, I assume that this is only a list of games that came out on the Xbox and PlayStation. Because otherwise Nintendo features HEAVILY in that top 5. But I’ll have my with and without Nintendo lists:

Without Nintendo:

5 - F1 2020
4 - Microsoft Flight Simulator
3 - Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey
2 - Red Dead Redemption
1 - Forza Horizon 3

Very interesting list indeed and for certain I would’ve given a different list if I just though about it without looking at my list.

With Nintendo game, however:

5 - Red Dead Redemption
4 - Forza Horizon 3
3 - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
2 - Super Mario Odyssey
1 - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Hmm, maybe time to relook at my list it seems.

GTA V is technically a last-gen game, isn’t it? It released on PS3 / XBOX 360 already.

EDIT: As per @Solitude’s guidelines, seems like I’m right. It was released prior to November 2013 and is a remake. :blush:

I’ve seen these “top 5 games” lists are hot all over YouTube now. Even Brandon Sanderson made a video about his favourite games.

But yeah, it’s impossible and I’ll probably be back to update this. This list is limited to games I’ve finished or spent a considerable amount of time with (i.e. not sure what “finishing” Warframe would look like).

  1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
  2. Warframe*
  3. Life Is Strange
  4. Opus: The Day We Found Earth
  5. EXAPUNKS

Honourable mention:

  • Joe Dever’s Lone Wolf*

* While Warframe and Lone Wolf technically released before Nov 2013 on PC, neither have been supported on a previous-gen consoles. The first console Warframe ran on was the PlayStation 4. Lone Wolf began its life as a mobile and PC game and came to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2016.

I expect that when I play Ghost of Tsushima it’ll go on the list.
