Not listening to it right now, but reminder set for tomorrow beginning at 17:30. Live stream on the official MTV YouTube channel.
“Rock and Roll Star” Laim Gallagher with Dave Grohl on drums.
Watched the first hour of the concert. Some solid performances so far. Will watch the rest tomorrow.
Dave with a hugely emotional “Times Like These”.
What amazes me is Dave’s voice, he still sounds amazing. Also was it bad of me to skip Liam? I can’t handle the mans voice
Not at all. He’s an acquired taste indeed. Just mentioned him because he was the opener. Couple of others worth scrubbing through to see for me were:
- Wolfang van Halen doing Van Halen songs Fire and Hot For Teacher
- John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) and Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) who together with Dave Grohl reformed their Them Crooked Vultures group
- Violet Grohl with Mark Ronson doing a cover of Amy Winehouses’ Valerie
- Lars Ulrich (Metallic) and Brian Johnson (AC/DC) doing Back in Black
- Stewart Copeland playing on Police classics Next to You and Every Little Thing She Does
- Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen
And then of course the entire Foo Fighters set at the end. They give good live shows generally, but this just hit differently. Packed Wembley Stadium, and a string of some amazing drummers sitting through some great Foo Fighters songs, some emotional images and memories of their band mate - good stuff.
Here’s the full show’s set list:
Darn. Just discovered the Taylor Hawkins concert video has been made private. Presumably so that MTV and Paramount+ can repackage it for broadcast later. I’m sure parts of it will be all over YouTube from the audience cameras. Will keep an eye for a broadcast version of it.
If nothing else, watch this Reddit video of his 16-year old son Shane Hawkins on the drums for My Hero.
MTV have posted the clip on their channel - clearly realised that there’s views to be had here (almost 5 million of them in less than 2 days)
This boy can JAM!!!
Nice! Haven’t heard this in a hot minute!
