I found it to be an interesting question to consider.
One game that I enjoyed at the time but found it hard to go back to is GTA San Andreas. I remember getting really into the game especially when it opened up to outside Los Santos. But playing it a good few years later, the graphics did not age well, which for a game all about getting immersed in the open world, does make a difference.
Hmm, tough question. Most the time if I try and replay something old, I end up really enjoying it again. Which reminds me, I have to finish Another (aka Out of This) World. I am not even sure if I finished it on my Amiga 500 back in the day.
I’m sure if I go through my Steam list I’ll find something old I’ve tried and cringed hard at.
For me it’s anything old. I learned my lesson when I wanted to replay the first two Fallout games. They were absolutely amazing many years ago. But they did not age well and you quickly realise how much things have improved over the years.
Now, I will just remember the old games fondly and not play them again.
I will try and explaine this as best i can but, it feels to me that the more you play an older game, or the more recently you play an old game the easier you can play it again, for instance to this day i can easily get back into playing Dungeon Keeper (even though my eyes take a while to adjust) and i believe it is only because i play it every few years since i first had it.
I know there is an old game i can’t play anymore but i just can’t remember what it was, i have like vague images in my head, but i just can’t put my finger on it.
