You imagined Lan as a Samurai type character? And not something more like Geralt?
Perrin also does not look like a big and strong black smith to me. Just some guy from a small village

Pretty much yeah with regard to Lan. In my mind the borderlands are heavily influenced by Japanese culture and aesthetics. The hadori looks almost exactly like I pictured it. His face might not look exactly like I imagined it, but I donāt dislike the actor they went with. I think he pulls it off.
Perrin Iām on the fence with still. He does look big and burly but too me he also does not resemble a blacksmith. I donāt think theyāve even mentioned it and I think itās an important part of his character.

Iāve been loving this series. I did have a wtf moment with that woman that Perrin killed. But otherwise, itās been fantastic seeing their take on bringing this world to life. I have the worst memory around, and having scenes sparks things in my mind, is freakinā awesome. The characters are on point, for how they are, not necessarily what they look like. The wordplay and dance around Aes Sedai politics is brilliant. Perrin the ever pensive thoughtful caring and quiet boy. Nynaeve the infuriating angry woman that canāt articulate emotion. Rand has hero moments where he says heroic things, and then in the next scene, says small town things. Matt playing the perfect fall into madness, and the subtle confusion that happens thereā¦
And for those of you that say people donāt look like they should. I always use cover art as my guide. Moiraine is suppose to be this tiny regal figure, and lan is a giant of a man, a manās man. Funnily enough, I picture Rand similarly, in my head this first time I read it, and then saw the cover art for book 5, which is quite a bit different.

This Lan is cool though, just not what I expected
Now here I must disagree, let us take a close look at Matt Cauthon in the books and the Matt portrayed in the series. In the books he is a lovable trickster with a big heart. In the series he is a thief, simple as that. With a heart yes, but still a thief. He did not play one trick in the series at the start, him and his friends got up to no trouble. The dynamic between them is totally lost.
There are a lot of other little issues with characterization which is why I just stop making comparisons, it is too painful. I enjoy the series for what it is: an alternate universe to the one in the books. One with small and big differences.

As far as Lan goes, the oriental feel of his character is pretty much how I saw it in the books. This comes from the whole meditation in battle thing and the various very oriental sounding forms in his swordplay that the books speak about, none of which are to be found in the series, funny enough.

I mean, itās a series, they donāt have time to put every scene in, and I donāt expect them too. At the pacing theyāre going at, it seems much faster than the books, so they canāt possible get everything in.
If it upsets you so much, maybe you shouldnāt watch it

Which is why I try my very best not to make comparisons, so far (excluding this conversation, damn you! 
) it has been going well. I really enjoy the series for what it is.

I must say though, and this is not a comparison with the book in any way: the portrayal of the village life is very flawed in one degree and it really bugs me. It is a village, with 2 councils running it, people look after each other (the series even hints at it) but still, the Cauthons are shown as almost down and out, starving, dirty and living in squalor. No real village will let things come to that, ever. (do you think the āWomenās cricleā would ever allow Mattās father to continue neglecting his family?)
So it seems to me that the only reason it is shown like that is to give Matt a heart, which is so very artificial.

Shadar Logoth was also a let down for me.
I had the idea of a stone city, overgrown with nature and darkness.
But yea, as many have said. Think we need to stop comparing and see them as 2 totally separate things, as both seem to be good in their own way.

Yeah the Abel Cauthon womanizer line is a bit kak. Heās supposed to be a respected horse trader. But itās the same with Perrin, they are trying to accelerate character development.

Finished Episode 5 and I really liked it. One part was a bit off character for someone but I really like how they changed some things from the books.
Really loving the show so far.

Absolutely loved Episode 7. They really did the Aiel justice. Tigraine looks badass. For my money, the handled the reveal very well. Loved that we got a flashback to a certain scene that is actually in the book but they just decided to not show us until now. My faith in this series is completely restored. The scenes with Lan and Nynaeve are so damn good.
*There is one thing I donāt like in this episode but itās really minor.
