The 2024 Xbox Games Showcase Followed by [REDACTED] Direct Airs 9 June.

The Xbox Games Showcase will be livestreamed on Sunday, 9 June 2024, starting at 19:00 SAST.

Like our double-feature last year with Starfield Direct, immediately following the Showcase we’ll be airing a special deep-dive into the next installment of a beloved franchise. We can’t say much, so for now we’ll call it the Xbox Games Showcase followed by [REDACTED] Direct.

This will also be the first Showcase to include games from the recently acquired portfolio of studios across Activision, and Blizzard, and also Bethesda and the Xbox Game Studios.

The [REDACTED] Direct, “a special deep-dive into the next installment of a beloved franchise”, is almost certainly going to be about the next Call of Duty game.

The not quite hidden logo in the bottom right-hand corner is a perfect match for the Activision logo mark. And the stylised three dog heads on a shield over an image of the US Capitol on a dollar bill fits the CoD aesthetic.

Games Radar suggests that the logo also supports an earlier rumour that Call of Duty 2024 would be another Black Ops game.

On top of that, previous rumors had suggested that Call of Duty 2024 would be another Black Ops game, and the orange and black color scheme of this teaser matches the aesthetics of that subseries.

Tom Warren at The Verge comes right out and confirms it, based on “sources familiar with the company’s plans”.

ETA: Might also be an opportunity for them to start putting some of the back catalogue onto Game Pass in the lead up to the 2024 CoD launch.

Xbox Games Showcase Followed by Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct [4K]

Join us for a double feature on June 9, 10am PT - Xbox Games Showcase immediately followed by Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct. The Xbox Games Showcase is your look at the new games from Xbox Game Studios, Activision, Blizzard, Bethesda, as well as our partners from around the globe. Immediately following the Showcase, stay tuned for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct for a special deep-dive into the beloved franchise.

The biggest rumours and predictions:

  • The long rumoured Xbox Handheld console will finally be revealed.
  • Strong rumours that “some” of the Call of Duty franchise catalogue of games will launch on Game Pass immediately after the Black Ops 6 Direct.
  • Suggestions that announcements about closer collaboration with Sony on new releases going to PS5. This includes the agreed to Black Ops 6 release obviously, but also murmurs about both the new Doom title and - surprisingly given its history as the quintessential Xbox franchise - a possible Halo: Combat Evolved remake.
  • The Showcase alone is almost 2 hours long and will feature about 30 games.

Agreed. I watched snippets here and there during the live broadcast, but also just rewatched it all the way through without skipping.

An excellent showcase all round in my opinion. Would have loved to hear anything about Activision and Blizzard titles making it into the Game Pass libraries. And maybe just the tiniest tease about the supposed Xbox handheld console. But other than those little quibbles, all good. 2025 is gearing up to be a bumper year for games again.

That DOOM game has got me all hot an bothered, cannot wait. Going to need to see a gameplay trailer for Dragon age, unfortunately that trailer makes it look a bit marvel/hero-e which just makes it feel off for me.

Hope the Fable game pulls it off, but it looks good so far.
