Coffee Lovers Thread

I brewed my first cups of coffee! The machine is awesome. It works really well and is nice and easy to operate.

I made the coffee at its strongest and I think the next batch I’ll make a bit less strong. I look forward to trying out different brands. People are going to think I’m crazy but does anyone know what brand Spur uses? I really like their filter coffee.

Made our second pot at medium strength and that’s much better!

Is that the Buffalo coffee you posted? I can’t see if it’s a light/medium/dark roast.

Not sure if it has been mentioned in this thread, but light roasts have the most caffeine, which is why the breakfast blends are light. Dark roasts have the least, and in my opinion, taste like arse.

Mediums are my go-to for all round flavour and enough caffeine to keep me going most days (although not today it seems)

I’m a little jealous of your new machine, I’ve had my eye on those for a long time now. Grats on the purchase!

Thanks @murfle! I have no idea what kind of roast it is. Will try out lots of different ones once this one is finished.

I’m not sure if they sell outside of Mpumalanga, but if you get a chance, try Sabie Valley Coffee’s bushveld blend (medium roast). It’s pretty good. I wouldn’t say it’s my favourite, but I’d still recommend giving it a try. Local is lekker and all that.

Thanks @murfle. Wrote it down. Plus the others mentioned so far.

When I bought the coffee I basically just went for something that had good reviews and um were on special hehe.

Okay, I’ve kept it in long enough. Coffee just tastes better in smaller cups, than mugs!

People often ridicule or tease me when I make coffee and the cup/mug isn’t full, “why only half a cup?”, which is also why I have smaller cups in the cupboard. Coffee just tastes better when made in smaller amounts.

Interesting… I guess some of it has to do with the fact you’ll finish it in half the time, helping keep the temperature from getting too cold…

I mean it’s fine if you’ve got a thermos full next to your tiny cup.

I rarely drink coffee for the sole purpose of enjoying it. Sure, if I have a choice I’ll take a better coffee, but in the end, coffee is a very efficient caffeine delivery system.

Screw cups AND mugs!

I want to see how it works and if it is worth it

I agree completely… when talking about instant coffee.

Filter coffee I prefer in a mug again.

I don’t think it’s a problem of finishing it sooner, heck, if I want more I’ll rather make another cup. I personally believe it comes down to proportions.

I use the normal mugs on most occasions but only filled to 3/4, using the smaller cups now (Cortado like size) and it just tastes better.

Yeah, talking mostly about instant (Nescafe Gold, Jacobs Gold, Douw Egberts, etc.) here.

I bought a Douw Eggberts Espresso & Ristretto Style this month and pleasantly surprised. Even more so with the Ristretto variant, for an instant coffee it tastes really good. Has very much a filter coffee taste and flavour.

I haven’t seen something like this in stores, anyone seen or experienced this?

Nope, but sounds great!

I asked, they answered. The answer is completely unintelligible, but it is an answer.

So now you “who are” asking know.

We have a few smaller coffee shops in Ballito area, most notable the Shed on the Salt Rock beach front, and Wonderland Coffee at Linc Church.

But at the moment Seattle Coffee has taken over. Man, I cannot get enough of their latte!
