I am waiting impatiently

Iā€™ll be F5-ing at midnight!

Doubt that the sooner you register will mean the sooner you get an appointment. All my folks registered an never received a follow up sms, they just went to a place with their records and were vaccinated. As long as you are registered your information will be on record.

Yeah, agreed, but Iā€™ll be F5-ing regardless. Thereā€™s a mobile Vax clinic on site here today, literally 15 meters from where I park, and if I had been able to register yesterday, I couldā€™ve gone there today.

Iā€™m still going to ask the site nurse if I can get one of the leftovers at the end of the day, since my soul is over 65.

Canā€™t seem to register as I canā€™t get past the province selection screen.

Really stupid form design.

Any idea which jab theyā€™re giving?

If I tab through the available fields it doesnā€™t move over the Province field and I canā€™t continue as it is compulsory.

I thought it we were only doing J&J and Pfizer at the moment? The Sinovac one has also recently been approved, but I donā€™t think weā€™ve got any of it yet. We suspended using AZ early in the year because it wasnā€™t showing high enough efficacy against the variant we had then (Beta?).

Kidd Redd got her first dose of (health worker allied) Pfizer about a month ago now, and mate in the 50-59 group got vaxxed yesterday already with the J&J shot.

According to the Different Vaccines >> What is the difference between these vaccines? FAQ on the Vaccine Updates - SA Corona Virus Online Portal:

The Government of South Africa has decided not to make use of the AstraZeneca vaccine for now, since it proved less effective against the predominant variant of the virus in South Africa. This decision can be revised when new information becomes available.

Why South Africa isnā€™t using the AstraZeneca jabs it bought ā€“ Bhekisisa

But subsequently, at the beginning of July, we were reconsidering AZ again, because it was proving to be useful against the Delta variant:

South Africa reconsiders use of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines ā€“ months after selling a million of them (businesstech.co.za)

Data presented by the government on 26 June showed that the AstraZeneca vaccine has more than 70% efficacy against the Delta strain.

In February, University of the Witwatersrand Professor of Vaccinology Shabir Madhi said vaccine had an efficacy of about 20% in preventing mild disease when dealing with the Beta virus.

Meanwhile, the Vax Stats section shows the only J&J and Pfizer shots have been administered in SA so far:

And Gauteng leading the way on the registration numbers. North Cape, not so much.

I was under the impression that j&j was only available in the health care worker trial, but I might well be wrong. either way, Iā€™m happy with whichever I am offered!

Edit to reply to your sneaky edit while I was typing:
Yip. I mixed AZ and Pfizer. Disregard all I said, everyone, I did a dumb! Listen to uncle Greg, he smart!

100% correct!

I got the J&J under the Teachers group, and was under the impression theyā€™re giving it to police and security staff too. The kid was supposed to get it under the Sisonke group - sheā€™s a 3rd Year Bio Med Sciences student - but landed up getting her Pfizer shot a month later. My mate yesterday assumes they just had extra J&J available at the place and he got that. So itā€™s all a bit confusing and ā€œyou get what you get and you donā€™t complainā€ at this point.

100% correct again!

Registered.

A few people I know who have gotten the shot went via the Dischem route, you just need the confirmation sms from the EVDS then you book and go. Iā€™m going to try that routeā€¦

Iā€™m booked for next week Thursday! And my wife for Friday because the Discovery site canā€™t handle all the traffic.

But we are booked! Sucks that we have to drive two different times to Sandton but we are getting the vaccine!

I see I need to sign up on the government site first, then on Discoveryā€¦ But I also see Discovery is supposed to send communications when Iā€™m eligible or somethingā€¦ From their FAQ ā€œWe will send out personalised invitations as registration eligibility opens.ā€

I havenā€™t gotten invitation, but I do have access to sign up via their vaccination navigator systemā€¦
