If you’ve got time to play games on your honeymoon, you’re not doing honeymoon right!
This stuff is so distasteful and disgusting, how can people seriously get to this point over a flippen game?!
Yea but we have NO clue what their “behind closed doors” agreement was with the author of the witcher series. Who knows…
This is almost a guarantee at this point. Maybe not quite 80GB, but remember that the game has gone gold so whatever they do now must be delivered as a day 0 patch.
I can’t help but wonder whether stuff like this was part of the reason for the rush and crunch.
yeah true, but as you said, hopefully not that big.
Does going gold still mean all that for games in the digital era? We’re downloading the whole game anyway, how hard would it be to incorporate a day -5 patch, at least, to reduce the size of the day 0 patch? How much of the console versions are actually stored on the optical media?
I wonder if someone is gonna get a console version on disc, install it while the console is offline, and play through some of the game without patching, then do a comparison with the day 1 patch.
Is that possible?
Good question. If you want to play online, then no, it will make you patch first. Offline play should work unless they put something funky in their code.
It depends on how much of what they need to finish are art assets, I expect. If all the voice overs and graphical data were completed and printed to disc, then the launch-day patch size may not have to be very big.
If I read the listings right, then the PC version of the game is just a box with a download code in it. However, the console versions do ship with discs containing some game data.
Despite the decent Q1 results, a €2.5-billion loss in market cap has got to be pretty troubling… I guess the boardroom discussions centered around which would be more damaging to their value: releasing a buggy, incomplete mess versus delaying again.
