Digital Inspirations

I found this article very interesting and insightful in terms of creativity and innovation in a digital space.

An excerpt from the above, really enjoyed this read and read it again. Found it rather inspirational.

Design Objectively with Subjectivity

The requirement to make designs efficient is obvious. If we ignore research and evidence that make a structure, product, or composition more effective, it would be detrimental to the users, businesses, and the world. This notion is what separates the fields of objective design and subjective art. And while we tend to believe these two domains should be separate, the reality is that art produces beauty and character, which add immeasurable value to the things we interact with — something quantitative methods lack in implementation.

I am not suggesting that we go around adding unnecessary elements to our designs for the heck of it. However, it is essential to look at the data and make calculated decisions that sometimes go against efficiency and logic to add character to produce something beautiful, unique, and meaningful.

I love IBM’s approach to design thinking, its design language, its philosophy and values etc. Just look at how beautiful this is.

How are things progressing on the site @FarligOpptreden ? Weren’t you, the team, or the site nominated for some awards as well?

The site hasn’t changed since launching a couple of months ago. I have some big plans for it, but I have no capacity to even further those thoughts. So I’m just letting it lie there for the moment until (realistically) next year when I might have some time to revisit some of the ideas.

I entered it to Awwwards, but sadly didn’t win SOTD or SOTM. Granted, there are some excellent submissions out there, but it was a good experience nonetheless. I’m quite certain with the next round of updates I’m planning, we’ll be a shoe-in for SOTD.

Does anyone use or have any experience with using AWS Amplify?

I ask because I was going through their documentation and happened across their Figma integration, was wondering how viable it is for developer hand-off and for creating coded components.

Along the similar vein…

Every time one of these challenges is run I’m gobsmacked at the talent and creativity that folks show in producing their scenes. Amazing stuff.

In my quest to learn Affinity Designer and work with client logos, I have created this. I love how they have provided a toolset for trying to mimic natural writing and styling by using a mouse and allowing a rope technique to help guide the cursor in the form of natural movement that you would have with a pen, pencil, or brush.

I haven’t posted anything here in ages, and recently I have been exploring the thought of revisiting pen-and-paper letter writing. Through a little online exploration, I came across this as a digital medium. Sadly I can’t make use of it, as it is only available to iPad. I love how stylised and whimsical it is.

I love it! I always thought the P5 UI was so stylish and outlandish but done in such a usable and eloquent way.

Paying people well is also a big takeaway from that.
