As the QQQuattro Challenge finishes up at the end of next week, I’d like to start setting up the schedule for the Rally Like it’s 2021 Season to take us through to the end of the year. Similar format to our previous full season, but slightly shorter - only 8 events - with each event only 9 stages long.

The "are you a sadist Greg? settings - Forced Cockpit Cameras and Hardcore Damage - will be turned off for the season. And Long Service Stops will be scheduled every third stage so regular repairs can be done and new tyres can be fitted. I want as many drivers of all levels to get through the season and still keep their sanity. It won’t be complete Easy Mode though - I’m keeping Surface Degradation and Time of Day & Weather settings up my sleeve to keep things challenging.

That said, I’d still like to give all Club Members an opportunity to set up the season, so your votes on some polls please:

#1 - Season Rally Locations

There are 13 locations in the game. We only need 8 for this season. Select your preferred venues (up to a maximum of eight). The eight most popular will become the venues for this season.

  • Catamarca Province, Argentina
  • Monaro, Australia
  • Jämsä, Finland
  • Baumholder, Germany
  • Argolis, Greece
  • Monte Carlo, Monaco
  • Hawkes Bay, New Zealand
  • Łęczna County, Poland
  • Perth and Kinross, Scotland
  • Ribadelles, Spain
  • Värmland, Sweden
  • New England, USA
  • Powys, Wales

#2 - One Car, One Class, Many Classes?

Do we want a single car season (where everyone use the exact same car for the season), a single class of car (with everyone free to choose and change cars from one car class), or a different car class for each event?

  • Specific car (note which one in reply)
  • Single class (note which one in next poll)
  • Multiple classes (select preferred in next poll)

#3 - Season Car Classes

If you’d like the option of all the cars in one class, or an entirely different class for each event, select the classes that you prefer here. If you chose “Single class” in Poll #2, choose just one class here.

  • Historic Rally H1 (FWD)
  • Historic Rally H2 (FWD)
  • Historic Rally H2 (RWD)
  • Historic Rally H3 (RWD)
  • Historic Rally Group B (4WD)
  • Historic Rally Group B (RWD)
  • F2 Kit Car
  • Modern Rally Group A
  • Modern Rally GT
  • Modern Rally R2
  • Modern Rally NR4/R4
  • Modern Rally R5
  • Up to 2000cc (4WD)

Let me know any variations or other thoughts on these settings that you’d like to suggest or request in reply to this. I’ll leave the polls open until Wednesday/Thursday next week and then finalise the season on Friday or Saturday to start Round One from just after the Quattro challenge ends (so from midnight on the morning of Sunday, 5th September.)

Into the final week of the final round of the Quattro Challenge. Just 4 starters so far, only 2 of whom managed to get to the end of Stage 1 unscathed!

(Also just another day or two before I close the new season polls and start putting the year end season together, so if you haven’t voted yet, get on it!)

Very slow, very underpowered “the engine is not right” Stage 4, but across the finish line and sitting P1 for a brief moment or two

Just 14 hours left to muscle the kaka Quattro around Baumholder if you want to.

At the moment, it looks like we might even finish the mini-season with a minor upset as podium places get finalised…

Coming up, the Season 5 details…

Enough with the Quattro shenanigans Greg! Give us something proper like!

Your cries have been heard, your votes have been tallied, and my “create new championship” setup sessions have been done, and actually saved first time for a change.

Season 5 of the MEW Dirt Rally Championship kicks off a little after midnight tomorrow and runs through to the Christmas weekend. We’re visiting the 8 most popular venues and will be using the 2 most popular car classes at alternating events. Hardcore Damage and Forced Cockpit Cameras are off, Assists are allowed, and Unexpected Events are on - watch out for that stupid drone camera now! As promised, each event will have a full Long Service Stop every third stage for repairs and tyres.

(Events actually start and end at 00:15 each Sunday morning.)

The Season will feature 9 stages at each of the 8 most voted for venues, in reverse order of popularity:

Because both the Modern Rally Group A and the Up to 2000cc 4WD car classes got an equal number of votes, we’ll use both, alternating between the two each rally. Drivers are free to use any car in the events’ class. And you can stick to the same car each time or change it for every new event as you like.

The cars you can use for the 4 Up to 2000cc events (:es: Spain :argentina: Argentina :greece: Greece :australia: Australia) are:

  • Citroen C4 Rally
  • Ford Focus RS Rally 2001
  • Ford Focus RS Rally 2007
  • Peugeot 206 Rally
  • Skoda Fabia Rally 2005
  • SUBARU Impreza
  • SUBARU Impreza 2001
  • SUBARU Impreza S4 Rally 2008

And for the 4 Modern Rally Group A events (:white_circle: Scotland :de: Germany :us: USA :new_zealand: New Zealand), select from:

  • Ford Escort RS Cosworth
  • Lancia Delta HF Integrale
  • SUBARU Impreza 1995
  • Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI
  • SUBARU Impreza RS

Be sure to check each events’ stage plan - which I’ll post a little before the start of each rally - so that you know what to look forward to  Most importantly though, have super fun time!

Season 5 Round 1 - :es: Ribadelles, Spain :es:

Viva Espana! Just when you thought you’d seen the last of Spains’ blisteringly fast tarmac roads, along comes Round 1 and the 2000cc 4WD class to say “olé!” one more time.

Whelp, I made it to the service area, but couldn’t even do a quick fix on the critically damaged engine. Thankfully, it was damaged enough that I couldn’t get enough speed to even crash! I was fully expecting normal wear and tear to cause fatal damage before finishing round 3 or 4, but alas, I made it back!

Stalled right as I got the the marshall, but hey… I made it

I saw this and was like ‘oh no’

But then kept reading

Phew

Thanks @GregRedd for setting it up.

Just to complete the Quattro Quattro Quattro Challenge records properly… the final round of the mini-season in Germany was won by :1st_place_medal: @Boogey putting a comfortable 3+ minutes over fast learning :2nd_place_medal: @LazyDemoni. Skidding through the square corners and hairpins a minute later was :3rd_place_medal: @Aldyr.

More good finishes from @Deadlypinecone, @Dragonic and the Disco Bear @murfle, with the last participation points for this season going to @Entity and @the9avenger9.

Unfortunately, as soon as a new season is started in DR2, the results from the previous one get consolidated (It’s 2021 Codemasters! You can store past results and records better than this kak!) so it’s tricky to work out. But by comparing to the standings after Round 3 we can see that @Boogey’s win and @aldyr’s P3 in this final round were significant.

@Boogey picked up 10 points for his win while @Aldyr got 6 for the P3. The end result… Boogey wins the Mini-Championship by a single point! @LazyDemoni’s brilliant P2 in the final round was enough to move him onto the 3rd step of the Championship podium which he shares with Mr. Consistency @Deadlypinecone. @Dragonic’s daughter give’s him enough time to stay ahead of me in the Top 5. Points on the final table also for all the other brave (crazy?) souls who gave my mad challenge a try: @Entity, @DarthMol, @murfle, @the9avenger9, @jaydogg86, and @oltman.

Thanks to everyone who participated again. I’ll think of another random combination to test your patience at the end of the year for the off-season. Until then though, Season 5 is up and running, and Spain is waiting for you and your Up to 2000cc cars!

I had a blast with the Quattro challenge, and I’m delighted with my performance in Germany. Everything went as well as it could have, and I didn’t make a mistake with the tyres again. Also happy with the shared podium! On to the next event

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to squeeze in my run. Congrats to everyone who braved the event, and bigger congrats to all who actually made it to the end.
