Dirt Rally 2.0 [MEWRL]

lol, I like the way you wrote Bar One, do you also pronounce it Ba-roh-nee? I got into the habit of doing that after a friend of mine did.

The Porsche is definitely weird. Light steering and kind of grippy but so hard to tell what it’s doing.
The BMW feels like the opposite. So lively, fast and that lovely sounding, responsive engine is amazing.
The Opel is quite balanced I think?
Finally, the Lancia seems like the fastest one. Can get a bit snappy but a good, responsive car.

Not sure what I’ll settle for.

Stumbled across this while trying to find some tunes, seems @aldyr has been holding out on us :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, I tend to agree with @LazyDemoni here, the Opel seems to be the overall balanced option with the Lancia being the quickest. While the Porsche, to my dismay, feels very vague in the steering. This Finland is going to be a challenge, I can tell.

hahaha, I was never holding out! I do notice people had weird feedback for my tunes, so I stopped telling people they were there. I suspect, it goes with my degrees of lock for my wheel (of which i use whatever the car comes with, so 1080°, then soft lock to lower to actual car), how much pressure I physically brake with (which is to say, I stand on the brakes for old cars, and I feather for modern cars), and how stabby stabby I am with the throttle (which is why i suck with ACC/GT3 cars).

There are 3 'ish types of my setups:

  1. Only tuned to make the location/surface bearable, with a comment to highlight this, and that it doesn’t change the handling or character of the car
  2. Tuned with a comment on how you need to drive the car (and also for location/surface), these are usually tuned for me specifically for my style of driving (more turn-in, aggressive, and generally a little deadly)
  3. Neither of these comments, and it’s just me testing kak, probably interim fiddling, before the final tune (though I think I might have gotten rid of these)

This is actually something I noted in some other tuning guides - they completely try to neutralise the characteristics of the car.

I used a Stratos tune where the car didn’t do it’s usually gentle oversteer. It was almost completely neutral, but when I lost control, it was in a bad way!

I couldn’t drive like that and enjoy it, so I used something similar to what you recommended, while driving using my more cautious approach. It was fine for me.

I generally never touch the differential with my tuning, that stuff confuses me a tad. I normally just fiddle with the toe in and camber, shock and damper stiffness, ride height, and roll bar stiffness. Ocassionally I’ve tune the gear ratios, but that’s very seldom.

Finland is tricky, it’s so easy to get unsettled after those jumps!

I swear I’ve lost an entire week. It’s just gone. I blame load shedding.

It has just dawned on me that I never did make a Germany results post or put the Finland preview post up. And now, with less than 5 days left on the Rally Clock for Finland, all I can say is I’m sorry and we can all pretend that there’s nothing wrong and move on.

For the record, :1st_place_medal: @Boogey came back from his break to take his third P1 of the season. :2nd_place_medal: @Aldyr slots into P2, trailing the Boogeyman by 3:40 at the end. And the podium is graced in P3 once again by :3rd_place_medal: @LazyDemoni just 10 seconds short of Aldyr. With the progress that Lazy has been making since the start of the season, it won’t be long before we have a third driver fighting for that P1 trophy.

Championship standings then, after 4 rounds:

Welcome to Rally Finland and to Jamsa, the Land of a Thousand Jumps! Twelve rally stages as normal to conquer, with the four long stages on 01, 06, 09, and 10. Time of day settings are evenly split and rotate between Daytime, Sunset, and Dusk. Keep an eye out for the Max Deg surface on stages 02 and 10. Other than that, Finland should be fairly straightforward. Those driving in VR may want to eat after driving though - your stomach may not be a huge fan of the near constant ups and downs of the Jamsa Jumps.

Heh, I think the only reason why I was so close to Aldyr, was because he didn’t have time to prepare! Still, I’ll take that podium

Load shedding is definitely getting in the way of my Dirt 2.0. I have less time to practice, and am extremely weary of when it’s safe to do an actual run. The Avenger is back, and I’m already 1 minute behind him after 3 stages.

Gonna be a tough one, but I’ll make it work!

Yeah, I’ve had little to no time for this round since it started LAST WEEK already.

Well fuck it. Going to do mine in a hour

I tried to do as much as I could yesterday (post load shedding). Unfortunately, I tried an alternative way to make a “1 left” turn, and ended up side swiping a barrier, car and onlookers, which gave me a 39 second penalty. An odd (and high!) number.

I don’t think I quite recovered from that, spinning several times more before the end. The car took heavy damage, but I’ll get it over the line.

Ah, I too am an uncultured man, killing a few spectators :joy: But they don’t learn. They keep coming back and standing in very bad spots a long the side of the road

I know I should take these opportunities to get in some time or stages, but at this time of the day I don’t particularly need that level of focus and concentration.

Right there with you. Load shedding until 22:30 tonight, and just not in the mood to even turn the PC on. Will hopefully grab an hour tomorrow morning to get at least some of the stages done.

I’m really hating Finland right about now.

Lol. I’ve only done the first two stages and I’m already 4 minutes down on the leaders.

Puncture on the last two sectors of the last stage, managed to bring it over the line still in second place

I felt like a gutterball the entire stages. I got as far as stage 7 before frustration and infuriation set in. After a puncture, subsequent repair, another puncture, missing door and bonnet, I decided to retire than try nurse it to another rest stop.

Figured I should get my one stage in. I did pick up a really cheap HDMI capture device today so I can stream my PS4 through OBS, but… I wasn’t about to stream Dirt. Not the way I play…

I also have a huge cut on my thumb that opened up this evening by accident, so I was playing with the middle part of my thumb. Not that I’d have done any better otherwise…

Ok, that all being said, I decided to leave it after the one stage with a trashed car. I had to ask myself. Is it really Wurth it?
