So I bought the GOTY Edition… Over 100Gb download… Almost fell off my chair when I saw that! My 10 Mbps Fibre line is running full throttle and steam thinks it’ll be done downloading in a day and 7 hours… So if I’m lucky, I might be able to still get a run on the board before the deadline on Friday.
Unfortunately it seems that I need to run the game via steam at least once before it links to my codemasters account, so no joining the club until that massive download finishes.
Some excellent times on the New Zealand runs - well done all! With the late runs from @DarthMol and @Konck, the newbie-with-skills, @aldyr and @oltman’s hold on the top of leaderboard lasted until just a few hours before the cut-off time.
Top marks and huge congrats to Darth - a fantastic P1 with almost 4 minutes over Oltman and 5 minutes ahead of P3’s Aldyr. And a definite solid shout out to Konck for a very credible P4 on literally his very first day playing DR2.
I’m impressed that even after 12 tough stages and over an hour of rallying, all the drivers that managed to complete the rally penalty free were separated by less than 10 minutes. And I’m sure that if @czc and @SlinX hadn’t both picked up full stage penalties, and @Entity had managed to complete the rally, they would all have been right up there too.
It’s really close at the top, and as Slinx’s result in New Zealand shows, anything can happen on a rally course.
The next stop of our Rally World Tour is the Argentine Rally - 12 twisty stages through the gravel paths of the Catamarca Province mountains. And keeping things classically Rear Wheel Drive, we’ll be using the Historic 2 class cars: pick from the Fiat 131 Abarth Rally, the Ford Escort Mk II, the Opel Kadett C GT/E, or the Alpine Renault A110 1600 S.
Played around a bit after the New Zealand rally, trying to find a sensible and simple workflow way to capture and upload decent quality replays from the game. (The lack of a decent video mode and the inability to export replay videos remains a travesty for such a good looking game!)
Anyway, I landed up capturing a replay of my first attempt at the first of the Colin McRae: Flat Out Pack scenarios using the Gamebar Screen Recorder and am reasonably happy with the end result. Here’s my first ever 2160p video upload…
The little 1984 Mini Cooper S is deceptively quick, but tough as nails, on the Scottish Rally stage. At 2:00 I crunch the left front badly, at 3:06 I clip the left rear but somehow manage to keep it going, and right at the end of the stage, with the finish boards in sight, I nearly destroy the entire run by putting the little bugger into a furrow on the side of the road. (And I tell people I do this to relax and have fun! )
Binned it again
After posting a blinding sub 3 minute time on stage 1 as well…
I was looking forward to this one, the Opel is such a fun car to drive. FML.
