Slightly less wet, than outside IRL now
To go back to this, this is such a strange class. Only 2 cars, and the Scooby is heavier AND less powerful. I previously tried both and could not find any reason not to use the Evo.
Also, the Evo is just fun! Itās back comes out, but itās controllable and natural feeling. I learned a lot in that previous event in Greece.
Unfortunately, I bent the car out of shape at the start of the last 3 stages and never recovered. I didnāt want to take chances with those cliff edges, so I just babied it home.
The sad thing is, there isnāt one class where choice doesnāt matter. There is always a fastest car, that outclasses everything else It is just glaringly obvious in this one, cos there are only 2 cars. I hope they allow clubs to force single models in the upcoming game
Side note: that model of subaru got universal hate, and is well known to be IRL
Oh, so much this! And the opposite extreme: multiclass events.
And the ability to add more than 12 stages to a rally for super long endurance events. And maybe even combine stages from different locations. But thatās being optimistic.
Iām finding it hard to get a comfortable setup for the Lancia S4. Iāve seen other setups dramatically add LSD lock, which I think makes the car feel less responsive.
Iām also not sure about the gearing. I like the short ratios as Iām bad at maintaining speed, but I think they should be a bit longer, especially for the straights.
I think raising the ride height and stiffening the springs applies in NZ?
Set the gear ratios to a curve, not a straight line. Youāll have your short ratios out of the slow corners, and have top speed on the straights. Test and aim for 210 max. I use 205, cos itās scary as hell driving faster in those old death mobiles.
Leave the LSD and change the torque bias to a more balanced value. More front bias will counter the oversteer on throttle. But donāt go too far, or it will just understeer and go wide on throttle.
If you can stay in the middle of the road, then harder suspension and firmer dampers are fine. If you drift wide from time to time, perhaps soften the dampers, so that when you hit the road edge, it absorbs the impact instead of flinging you across the road.
Note to self: Donāt play games like this when youāre sick. Stage 1 was long too. I was in a lot of pain (so to speak) before I finished the 2nd gate.
Iām done with this challenge. It was very tough! The Lancia S4 is an absolute beast which I (literally) couldnāt quite come to grips with.
Still, fun event and I learned a thing or two about car control xD
Yeah, that was my intention.
Kiwiland shenanigans are done, and weāre into the second half of the 9X9! Eight starters off the line at Stage 1 in Waimarama, with six classified on the results sheets at the end of Stage 9 after 80km of timed special stages.
Taking the P1 honours again with back-to-back victories, @Aldyr has clearly gotten his racing rig and wheel setup sorted out and is back to his comfortable winning ways. A full 2 minutes off our winner was the fast-moving superhero in the form of P2ās @The9Avenger9, who got better and better as the rally progressed taking wins in the last two stages.
Back after taking some time off in Round 4, reigning champion @Boogey, needed a couple of stages to get back into his rhythm dropping 30 seconds behind @Aldyr after the first two stages. He did manage to pull half of that difference back by the end of S7 before an error on the next stage saw him lose a full minute and a half. He finished the event P3, just 9 seconds shy of @The9Avenger9ās second step spot.
P4 this time around to @LazyDemoni who brought the third of the Lanciaās home in a somewhat isolated spot - 5 minutes off the winner and over 4 minutes clear of P5 (itssa @Me Gregorina). Last of the official classified runners in P6 was @Beo, who lost control of his Peugeot 205 on Stage 8, crashing out of the event and probably hurting himself and a bunch of New Zealand trees in the process.
Participation points on the board for @Warrack101 who returns to the rally family for the first time since Round 1. The only driver brave enough to slip behind the wheel of the Group B behemoth Audi Quattro, he got to the end of Stage 2 before reassessing his life choices and deciding to abandon in favour of an early flight home. And finally, it was another one pointer for @murfle, who still insists on driving in his dancing fur beast costume.
The Championship Standings then after 5 of 9 rounds:
No position changes in the top three, but the points gaps do move a little. @Boogeyās P3 does enough to keep him 5 points clear of @LazyDemoni who holds onto his P2, but by only the slimmest of 2 point margins from P3 retaining @The9Avenger9.
@Aldyrās second win, with a field of eight starters, help propel him from P6 on the table last time to P4 now. Another win and heāll be right back in the middle of the podium hunters. @Beoās DNF causes him to slip down 2 places to P6, just one point behind @Moi.
Next up, we track back to Europe for Rally Poland with the swift Group A cars. See you there!
2023 MEWRL Rally Championship: The 9x9
Round6 : Rally Poland | ÅÄczna County :
Round 6 of the 2023 9X9 Championship is up. Carbon footprints be damned - from New Zealand weāre heading all the way back to Europe for Rally Poland. (In all honesty, I did mean to put Australia after New Zealand but got distracted halfway through setting up the Championship and then forgot.)
Event Period
- Starts: 2023-06-17T22:15:00Z
- Ends: 2023-07-08T21:59:00Z
Eligible Cars
Modern Rally Group A
-
Ford Escort RS Cosworth
The Ford Escort RS Cosworth, based on its road car equivalent, which was the first mass production road car to produce both front and rear downforce, featured a unique āWhale-tailā rear wing, and was a car feared by its competitors, especially at European and national levels. FranƧois Delecour took a total of 4 rally wins in the Escort Cosworth. -
Lancia Delta HF Integrale
An icon of Group A rallying, the Lancia Delta HF Integrale was based on its road-going Lancia Delta equivalent, sporting an inline-four engine producing 330 bhp. This car dominated the world stage in the late 80s, taking 19 Group A event wins between 1987 and 1989. -
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI was built by Ralliart in 1999 to compete in the World Rally Championship. As the successor to the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V, the car featured better cooling and engine durability thanks to its larger intercooler, and titanium-aluminide turbine wheel. Tommi MƤkinen won his fourth championship in this car.
-
Subaru Impreza 1995
Introduced as the successor to the SUBARU Legacy, the 1995 Impreza didnāt take long to demonstrate its rally capabilities, winning rally events almost immediately, and winning the World Rally Championship in its first full season, with Colin McRae at the wheel. Still regarded by drivers and fans alike as one of the greatest rally cars ever built, this car is a true Group A icon. -

Rally Route
Ahh, beautiful old country ÅÄczna County. Donāt let its good looks lull you into complacency - these tracks have a mean streak running through them. A lapse in concentration and it could be āhello nurseā time for you.
As usual for this Championship, we have 9 stages to get through in Poland - six short and three long. There are four wet surface stages expected, two of which - S2 and S6 - have the added complication of heavy rain. Stage 6 doubles down on the pressure by being run at night. Two additional night stages are joined by two dusk and one sunset stage. Surface degradation should be more manageable in Poland compared to New Zealand with only two high deg stages and no maximum deg at all.
Looking forward to seeing your mud-encrusted times from Poland! Get dirty!
Yeah, I suffered wheel and suspension failure after trying to nurse it home from a collision with a rock which hooked my undercarriage.
6 days 10 hours left to get to Poland for Group A shenanigans and take that comfy current P1 off of @the9avenger9!
Oh good, I thought I missed my 1 point this weekend. Gotta get in a stage
This is hard with a gamepad! Wtf!
I quite enjoyed these stages, nice 'n fast. Some of the moments were rather hair raising though.
Iāve onley ever played with keyboard.
