Experiencing some serious déjà vu vibes right now.
Almost exactly one year to the day and I’m back in the same hospital again. This time fortunately for something a little more planned than then. Had an umbilical hernia repair operation this afternoon. It was caused as a side effect of my issues from last year and was quite bad. Had a plan and schedule to get it repaired early in the new year once the new medical aid benefits year started, but the hernia had other plans. It had been getting significantly more tender and swollen the last week. So much so that when I saw my doctor on Tuesday for a checkup he “strongly encouraged” me to have it taken care of right now.
So a little over an hour in theatre, a bunch of mesh inside me, and a 7cm incision scar to score “check my war wound” points, and it’s done. An overnight stay here, then a week of limited movement bed rest, and then another 4-6 weeks of zero strenuous life. Guess I’m going to be spending the Christmas break floating in the pool as opposed to swimming in it.
Hopefully this will be the last of the health issues for a while for me and I can get my exercise regime back on track in the new year and kill these way too many extra kilos.
Besides, Mrs Redd also needs to have a procedure done, so I guess she can have a turn now.
