Nope, not a Pr.Eng because honestly, the heavy amount of intense pushing in my final years of Uni for us to spend so much of our very tiny, brand new salaries on being ECSA Candidate Engineers for 2 whole years was really disconcerting, reeked of desperation, a bit of an elitist boys club, and came across as a money-making racket. That was the vibe we got from the ECSA reps every time they tried to sell us on joining. It’s almost more annoying than timeshare sales agents. It made me not want to have anything whatsoever to do with them at all.

This feeling was amplified when I found out that only the chief engineer of the company or on consulting engineering projects usually had to be a Pr.Eng (I was in Industrial engineering). The ECSA reps were insistent that my company would pay for my candidacy because having a Pr.Eng benefits them as well. So I approached my company and they had zero interest in doing it. I considered doing it myself, only to be told that I needed to find a Pr.Eng in my organisation who would be my supervisor as they had to confirm that I was doing my job in accordance with proper engineering practice etc.

Two problems: I wasn’t working as an engineer, and there were no Pr.Eng folks in my hierarchy to supervise me. So I left it alone. Now I’m in a completely different field to my original one. I’m still not working as an Engineer, officially, and I don’t know how or where I would find anyone who would be able to supervise my candidacy for two years if I decided to actually get my Pr.Eng. Also it’s still crazy expensive and I am not in a position where my work could result in grand liability of the sort that ECSA insurance covers.

I am loving this “national shutdown” so far. . . .

I didn’t even know such things were viewable on Google Maps.

I don’t know about you, but that’d make things much worse for me. They’re burning the brush around our fence and I am suffering…

Also, cooking oil is expensive AF right now, so let’s not start burning the fields

Yeah, don’t burn the fields.

The National Shutdown looks like a flop.

Don’t they know you need to restart?
