G’day, all.

@czc: Are you Pr.Eng? Or working towards it?

Morning people of the palace, hope you all have a good day.

Ive sent my CV in to a company that is looking to recruit (heard about it via a good friend cough @Ani cough). So hold thumbs that they might have a spot for me.

I’ll have to work towards Pr. Tech (UNISA diploma route)

Are you a Pr. Eng. or considering it?

Our company believes that it is easier to employ construction workers and teach them IT than it is to employ people in the IT industry and teach them the construction domain.

I am considering it, but it’s so much work! I initially didn’t want to follow the Pr.Eng or GCC route as I am severely allergic to legal liability. Having gained some experience (read: being old) I’ve come to find my niche in the industry, and some larger companies actually do require Pr.Eng for the more senior version of my role, albeit without loading any liability on you. I’ve been trying to get my ducks in a row to actually do it for about two years now, but real life keeps getting in the way!
I was just curious. I read something on MyBB about Solar installs needing Pr.Eng sign off, which I believe to be complete hogwash, but wanted to test my logic with a Pr.Eng before I stick my neck out
@Ani, you’re not Pr.Eng, are you? Are there any Pr.Eng in you industry?

I believe you need to submit a design report when applying for Pr. Eng.

Re the Solar Panels, possibly they were referring to a CoC?

I also remember something like this. Makes it a bit difficult for me who haven’t designed anything professionally in ~5 years… :man_facepalming:

They were talking about the Pr.Eng sing off in addition to CoC. :man_shrugging:

In that case the only other thing I can think of is that they might have need a sign off that the roof trusses can support the weight of the panels. But that could be more of an insurance issue.

They mentioned that as a separate point - the bit I read specifically spoke about the electrical side…

What South African homeowners should know before installing solar power.

In my opinion that would negate the requirement of a certified electrician. Surely an electrician’s signoff is good enough? Pr.Eng would be useful at the system design level, which is the realm of the inverter designer and manufacturer, not at installation level. /opinion

Agree with that opinion personally. Its all standards based and the inverters are already design and comply to certain international codes, probably IEC.

But hey, whatevs.

Dave and Eva perhaps? We went through that for some time, then Super Simple Songs, Cocomelon and Badanamu. Thankfully we’re now on Lego Jurassic World, random superhero shows and Disney movies.

Thank you for the great suggestions. I was looking for something else other than Cocomelon. At the moment that family haunts my dreams and their songs forever lodged in my brain. I even have my top 5 Cocomelon songs
