So I have a moment to be proud. Sort of anyway one of my car doors weren’t locking. Checked the fuses all of them are fine and then I turned to dismantling my door. Don’t know how it’s fixed but I’m not gonna question it but it’s fixed :mechanical_arm:

So I have some cool news. Two weeks ago I applied for a two-week-long practical training course in satellite systems engineering :artificial_satellite:. I received final confirmation today that I was selected for the program! :rocket:

It is being held in Cairo, Egypt! I will be hosted by the Egyptian Space Agency… and they pay for everything

I have an appointment tomorrow at the Egyptian Embassy in Pretoria for my visa, and I will receive my air ticket as well. I will probably be flying out this Saturday and returning just before Christmas.

I’m really quite excited, for getting to travel to Egypt (never been!) and also for the really cool program they have lined up. I’m going to be doing initial theory classes and then practical sessions in the labs on everything from orbital dynamics and satellite attitude determination & control, to power systems, comms systems, thermal systems and optical payloads. And a bunch of other subsystems as well.

I’d like to give a shoutout to the grandest poobah of them all, my @SIGSTART, who I literally just came home to after 3 weeks away on a work trip, who didn’t bat an eyelid at me abandoning him during his annual leave to :airplane: jet off to Cairo :egypt: at short notice, and is always supportive of all my space-related gallivanting around the world.

That is epic! Better reinstall Kerbal Space Program to brush up before you go!

Sounds fantastic! Congratulations @Ani! While you’re there, please pop past the Giza pyramids and check if there’s an alien spaceship under one of them. TIA

Well this morning I went to the Embassy to get my visa. I figured I would hand in my passport and photos at my appointment time at the service window and wait like everyone else then get it back along with my air ticket.

No no, I taken inside the embassy. My appointment was with the Deputy Ambassador :flushed: The staff were all extremely friendly and helped me get everything sorted out, then I had a sit-down with the Deputy Ambassador himself and he congratulated me on being selected for the programme.

He took me through all the logistics of my trip, showed me the hotel (:astonished::exploding_head: 5-star!) where I would be staying, gave me a bunch of details, and promised me that they would look after me very well, and that the trip will also include some Egyptian entertainment and sightseeing, all arrangements done by from their side. He processed my visa himself immediately and handed me my air ticket and visa. He’s really nice!

I felt like royalty, and it was so unexpected and lovely to meet so many people at the Embassy and have a sit down with the Deputy Ambassador. Really blown away. Then I let a friend of mine know that I was going, and he informed me that it’s considered to be a really prestigious programme.

I still can’t quite believe that I got selected.

The only sad part is that my flight is on Friday night, which means I miss a large portion of the year-end dinner I had already RSVP’d to attend. I do get to pop in for an hour but then I have to leave for the airport.

Still, I promise to post pictures and I will keep my eyes keenly peeled for any alien artifacts :alien::amphora::flying_saucer: and of course, I will absolutely give 142% in my training course.
