Morning all. Have a great weekend everyone!
Morning people of the palace
Have a good one
Urgh… Been trying to use Evernote but without a customisable hierarchical structure it’s losing its appeal.
The search continues.
Not sure what you’re looking for exactly but maybe have a look at Obsidian, its apparently customisable.
Firstly, look at Obsidion, Notion or Omnifocus.
Secondly, you got to start listening to the podcast Cortex. Like right now.
Gee, if you guys both vouch for it I’ll give it a better look. I initially ruled it out due to not being cloud-based and not having sync functionality.
I realise my criteria are pretty specific, though I wouldn’t say niche, and I don’t mind paying a small amount for a premium app or service.
I suppose this is the problem with having a Mac and Android ecosystem.
Obsidian seems amazing, playing around with some ideas. I love some of the functionality and presentation, but, and this is a game-breaker for me, it does not allow me to sort or organise my hierarchical structure the way I want it. I do really LOVE the markdown and overall note area layout and structure, very very pretty.
I am going to look at Notion again, though it overwhelms me as there is just too much freedom and I spend more time messing around and trying to be too organised and therefore spend too much time refining layouts and going too deep into its core, I still need some rigid structure otherwise I get distracted.
I love the idea of Notion and have been following them for a long time, its capabilities are endless and incredibly powerful. But much like many other tools, I get overly perplexed by their complex systems. As good as they are, I’m just going to have to try restrain myself.
I wish Apple Notes web would work on the android browser. That is like the ideal solution for me.
Have you checked if there is a plugin that does what you want?
Couldn’t you turn it into an app on the phone?
Yeah, I tried that, but it seems super buggy where it looks like it glitches out. I am unable to type anything as the keyboard keeps flashing and disappearing. Yet works fine on desktop web, so strange indeed.
oooh… interesting. I shall investigate, it looks like there may be a solution therein. Thanks, shall investigate.
Obsidian is literally a viewer for your markdown files in its folder structure, so if you can build your heirachy in folders, just point Obsidian to that. Also, don’t be afraid to use different vaults for different things. I’m in the process of breaking my “personal life” knowledge out from my work vault.
Apple really dislikes Google and Android, doesn’t it?
Maybe Dark Mode setting on the phone or in the browser you used to create the app?
Sadly I’ve tried multiple browsers with light and dark modes all with the same result.

Thanks for all the recommendations an’all. I was just wondering something about Obsidian while playing around with it. Since vaults are simply local folders, can they be a synced cloud storage folder within Google Drive for example, therefore giving you the ability to “synchronise” your notes and such?
EDIT: also just discovered Joplin, an open-source app.
Indeedily. I sync Obsidian on my desktop, laptop, phone, and tablet via GDrive, and back it up to my server as well. On my androids I use DriveSync. No idea what the iOS crows uses.
Good morning everyone.
