I felt extremely honoured to have received a tablespoon of said maple syrup on waffles with bacon last Sunday evening. It is, indeed, quite amazing. Wyvern guards that maple syrup better than Mika guards people in that house, and believe me, Mika takes his job very very seriously.

Looks like @murfle s parents visting will have to be dictated by @Wyvern s Maple reserves.

Is that how it’s spelled? I always thought it was “koki” like in Kombi. Either way, anyone know the origin of coky/koki? The rest of the world calls them markers or felt tips, don’t they? Anyone else call them cokys/kokis?

gonna take a stab in the dark and say its a “Velcro” situation, where it was a brand of marker that was so commonly available, that in the end it just ended up being the thing that we all called them.

…After googling…

Indeed, Koki pens are a brand:

It’s definitely spelt “Koki” as in Koki pens. It was the brand name of one of the original locally produced colourful marker pens. The word had Dutch origins, if I recall. I only recently found myself saying “Do you have a Sharpie?” because that’s the US equivalent of a Koki, but they’re all just brand names of national origins. In Australia they have a different term for them as well, I just can’t remember it right now, but my nephews use it.

Yeah, exactly! I was going to say, growing up, all plastic shopping bags were “Checkers Bags” regardless of which store they came from  And yes, we still get original Koki brand markers here in SA. There’s an online store that still sells them.

You don’t know windchill 'til you’ve been outside in -35 degree weather with any form of air movement whatsoever

But ya, would the weather make up its freakin’ mind already?!

Finally it’s your turn.

Lots of snow that fell over the weekend, the sun is out but its still fecking cold in the cape.

Bonus of working at Newlands, watching men in tight shorts exercise . . . . .
