I have to be honest though, personally I do not believe the statement in that image. I have seen plenty people become successful through pure dumb luck with no effort on their part. The reverse is also true. I have seen plenty people work their asses off and get nowhere, all their lives long.
What does (should?) work is working hard and with determination to increase your chances of success. That said, it is still a chance.
For example: eating well, doing exercise and cutting out as much of the bad stuff out of my life increases my chances of not dying from a cardiac event but the chance is still there. I can drop dead straight after typing this sentence.

To be fair though, you were at the back of the queue on Heart Issuing Day and did land up getting one from the “Faulty Units - RTM - Do Not Use” box because they ran out of the good ones.
